Flying to Australia before receiving your 457 Visa confirmation.....

Has anyone done this?
Do you still have a certain amount of time in Australia before you need your Visa to have been granted?
(assuming you are not working in that time)

Basically we are still waiting on our 457 Visa to be granted and hopefully it will be before we want to fly out at the end of January. Is anything stopping us from flying out before we get the Visa?
(we are very confident of getting it)

I may be wrong with this reply, but I think it needs bumping up the queue.

To enter Australia you need to have a visa of some sort. be it a working visa or a tourist one.

If you don't have any sort of visa (ie tourist) I would be amazed if the let you leave the UK (although, saying that, I bet you could get in easy enough). If you did manage to get out of the UK without a visa, you'd have no chance of getting into Oz.

I stand corrected if I'm wrong, but I would hate for you to arrive in Oz for them to put you on the next flight home.

Yeh The Tuckers are correct you must have some sort of visa to enter the country even a ETA visitor visa. Not sure what would happen if you entered on a ETA whilst waiting for your 457 but I am sure someone else was asking this question few weeks ago so you could try searching the old threads.

Hi Rachael

When did you apply for your 457. Ours took 6 weeks from lodgement to being approved and thats with a 10 day break for xmas and new year, so it could be that yours will be approved soon?

Does anyone know at what point you can enter OZ on 457 do you have to have start date from employer or can you enter before that.

Rachel not sure about this but if 457 visa is granted whilst you are in OZ do you not have to leave the country then come back again if its a offshore visa. Just a thought I mind be talking rubbish

Chrissy you can enter anytime. Billy never had a started date when we arrived.

We applied for our visa first week in November, i'm sure everything will be ok, just getting a bit worried with it only been a couple of weeks till will we fly.

We've emailed are agent to see what she says, hopefully we'll hear back from her on Monday!!!

My partner starts works on the 25th Feb.

Isn't there something about if you have an ETA visa and enter Aus it invalidates any other visa - or was that just the 136? I also thought you had to be off shore to receive your visa as your entry into Aus validates it. I'm confused - you may be better waiting until you get your visa before you leave for Oz - just to be on the safe side.
