Just wondered if any joiners had done first stage of vetassess? We are soooo confused - doesn't take much! The problem we are having is this: Which option to choose. Whereas with TRA you could evidence for carpenter/joiner, now with vetassess you have to pick either or. Please be patient if I start to ramble on a bit but going slightly mental with it all. According to the job description for carpenter, hubby meets most but not all, and the same for joiner, if this makes sense. What I'm asking basically is do you have to have experience on every count as per the fact sheet? Some of the duties included wouldn't be performed by either a carpenter or a joiner in the UK so we are really stuck. Don't want to pick wrong option - why, oh why did they take tra away from us?
As I said sorry to ramble but really stuck as to what to do for the best. Is it acceptable to ring vetassess for advice and if so are they allowed to advise you? I would be eternally grateful for any advice at this stage.
Hi, we have been in touch with vetassess and they seem quite happy to email you. We had a few questions and they were quite friendly! So give it a go!! Hope you've had some answers, sorry can't help with other query.

Hi, we were in the same situation as you, not sure if answering you to late, but anyway we left it all to our agents and they sent our stuff away, and they said when it came back Vetassess decided my husband was a joiner even though we felt he was more carpenter (how confusing), only thing now is he has his test in two weeks as he passed the paper based so we are keeping fingers crossed he is in the right section!!
If you are sorted now, how have you got on?
Good luck with everything, hope all sorted.
Thanks.
Andi
Hi, have just signed up to this forum for help if possible and noticed your thread about Vetassess. I noticed you say you have done the practical test. Would you mind telling me what you do as my husband is a joiner and has his test in a couple of weeks and we did not realise any one had done the test yet, and if possible what it involves.
Thanks and good luck with everything.

Hi we are in the same situation. Oh, its so confusing!! Do you think it was worth paying someone else to sort it out? We got quoted £700 + vat to help us fill in the forms!! I was trying to do them myself but it doesn't seem very straightforward!

Hi. In answer to your question, its really a personal choice. We went with agents as my sister in law used this company and have now gone to New Zealand, so they recomended them to us. We have had a few ups and downs with them, and heated moments, but just because we are getting fed up waiting, we started this last April and were told from start to finish they would take a year, so by rights we SHOULD have been getting visa's next month, but sticking up for them, I suppose they did not know TRA were going to stop and Vetassess were going to take over, and we got caught up in it all unfortunately. I suppose the good thing about it all is they take the stress out of the forms and all the formalities that go with it all, yes it can be expensive, but it depends how much stress you wish to go through, remember, they will be doing loads of these, but if you do it wrong it only delays your process when they send it back to you, but like I say, its a personal choice as lots do it by themselves also.
If you need me to answer anything for you just ask and I will try to help!!! Hope this helps a bit and I have not wittered on. Good luck with everything and hope all works out for you.
Andi.

Hi there, i'm new to PIO, currently using Poms in Adelaide. I noticed your thread on the Joinery Vetasses and that your OH is taking the practical test, has he done it and if so what did it involve. My OH is a Joiner also but we are not looking to start the process until next year, but any information is always useful.

My other half is carpenter/joiner you can either pay to do both vestasses stage 2's or just choose joiner or carpenter so what does he prefer doing mine just went for one option to save on costs but obviously it is your preference. Hope this helps

Hi Joanne,
Yes my OH has done his practical test. He did it last Monday. I would be worried to go into detail with you the things he did as I think, and probably others will too, that they will change the things to be done for each test, as it would be too easy to pass information around to each other, so if your OH planned everything on what my OH did and it was incorrect on the day that would be awful.
What I can suggest is go onto the Vetassess website and have a good look on there, this will give you alot of useful information, that should help you with any worries you might have.
I also suggested a link in a post a while back which gives the list of sample tasks that were for this particular lot of tests in April, which might give you some information (hope it is still there, let me know if not). If you type in Carpenter practical test at the top of the page under the search option, and go into it, its thread was eammon and scroll down to my post titled silly, I have tried to link you the only way I know how (still all new to me sorry).
Hope I have been of some help to you, but please do not hesitate to ask again if I can help any more. Good luck.
Andi.
