Hi Greig
I don't know to much about the 457 visa but a friend of mine which flys out next week (she has 2 school aged kids) and i remember her telling me that she has to pay for the school's as she is not going on a permmanent resident visa but you can apply for one when you get there! Sorry for being so vague!

Good luck

I have been told that if you are female and get pregnant on a 457 visa, it gets cancelled, but don't know how true this is.

  1. It is clearly understood that government social security benefits are NOT available to skilled migrants under the SRS and SSV visa schemes. Skilled migrants sponsored under the SRS visa will NOT have access to Medicare, Higher Education Contributions Scheme or Centrelink.
  2. Skilled migrants sponsored under the SSV visa will NOT have access to social security benefits until they have permanently resided in Australia for two years. Further information on access to government benefits can be found on the DIAC website at http://www.immi.gov.au/

i believe school fees on a 457 temp visa are dependent on the state ,wa for instance you dont have to pay any extra school fees than perm res.If you are buying a property while on a 457 temp visa then you will not be entitled to the first time buyers home grant from the government.you will also have to pay stamp duty on the property regardless of the value of the property.hope this is helpful, somebody please correct me if i'm wrong.

It's if the visa is in your name, not if you are the partner of someone on one.

Regarding 457 visa, I was informed that New South Wales charges for children's schooling if emigrating on this visa. Not sure about any of the other states though.

457 visa

Hi

It all depends on what state you are going to i contacted the department .
of education in wa. In wa a 457 visa is a non fee paying visa although schools can charge from kindergarten to year7 $60 per annum and for year8 to 12 $235 plus extra cost options. Try getting in touch with the education department for your state they are very helpful and put your mind at rest.

Good Lucl!!!!!!!!
