We are going to be applying under an independant skilled visa ( Im a nurse) and have decided to go it alone ie no agent, really due to funds.
We are just wondering if we mess it up (the paperwork) at any stage can we reapply - prob using a professional at that point! Or is it one strike and you are out?

Hi Bonnie and Clyde,
yep
you can go again
I messed up my first TRA (well, I am sure having an assessment officer who was leaving at the end of week, who IMO did not take enough time over it, had something to do with it too)
because of a tight time frame - 45 v soon I then used an agent, TRA passed and now waiting for the visas
Go for it - lots of help on here, have a good poke around and ask lots of questions
GOOD LUCK

I did my skills assessment myself (teacher) and failed due to lack of time at university. The application for that was ok (teachers were the lucky ones!) so I went back to uni, reapplied myself and passed the skills. We used an agent for our visa but if we had been a bit more confident in our own abilities at filling in paperwork, in hindsight, perhaps we could have done that bit ourselves as well. But hey ho, we're here and loving life down under.
Hope it goes ok for you guys as well.

Hardest thing about skills assesment is collating all the information. You must have all your qulifications, and references proof of earnings etc.Probably a bit more involved for me as im a Carpenter/builder.You think you've given everything about you but there's always something else!We had an agent, they guided us with checklists etc and didn't submit our application untill they were certain of a positive result.
Hi B&C,
I am also a nurse and received my Permanent Visa in May . I did not use an agent. Did it myself with a little help from my best friend who emigrated to Australia 4 years ago. She told me which websites for skills assessment visa application etc. It was a long process but with a lot of patience & double, triple checking all paperwork I managed it. I did make one small mistake on visa application but they e-mailed me and changed it for me. The first thing you have to do is check the immigration website Department of Immigration and Citizenship to make sure you have enough points to emigrate. You then have to get your skills assessed by the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council to allow you to nurse in Australia. To do this go into Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council - Home Page, on the right hand side is Migration information .You need Full Assessment Form B (PDF 145KB) to apply. Page 1 of the form tells you which documents you need stamped & certified by lawyer & which words lawyer should use to certify them. It does take a bit of time and patience to gather it all together, my employer took six weeks to give me reference. I then got a positive assessment about 5-6 weeks later. Allow for a slow down over X-mas & New Year. While I was waiting for skills assessment I started filling in immigration applications ( I did paper application-personal choice). On-line does get reputation of being quicker. All application forms & information needed is on Department of Immigration and Citizenship Good Luck- Wee Wen
