********* Removals ?

Anyone used ********* Removals for their move down under.? Their website was very good and easy to compile an online quote, just ticking the pictures of all you want to take and estimating the boxes. They operate nationally but I think on a sort of franchise basis, with depots run by linked franchise all over the UK. (that's what my sister says, she's the one with the brains out of us two) I'm taking everyone's advice on this site and dealing with Crown as well, but just wondered what are the best alternatives.

I know this removal question has been asked a lot and sorry to bore some folk with a repeat of the question, but it is a concern for me at present.

Thanks,
EMMY

I have just had both in to quote today, and Crown seem the better company to deal with, he measured my furniture as brittiania guessed at it....

Crown include Insurance as a block figure of £56,000 and also include AQIS inspection fees
Brittiania don't include insurance, it's at 3% plus £35 set up fee and then 5% ontop to go to the goverment for duty......and don't include the inspection fee????

My friend just got her container yesterday went with brittiania they said it was full at this end no more could go in it, put when they opened the doors......guess what enough room for 2 large fridge freezers....

As brittiania work with agents in Melboune they except delivery of your container then have to inform the customs so this is another wait 10-12 weeks....

Crown do door to door with Crown and have the customs go directly into their warehouse....

Overall i was impressed with the guy from Crown and as long as it's not too much over the £4k mark we'll be going with them.

sorry to ramble......
Ally

Thumbs up Yes I agree

Thanks Ali,

You have given me a lot of info here hun, I am more interested in Crown, and their guy is coming the week after next to do a survey. We are only taking about a third of our house and they still say we need our own 20ft container, which surprised me. I'm just not convinced somehow with the quote off ********* even though it seems acceptable in terms of the old £'s. Just not sure if their a good service and operator. I will let everyone know how I get on and if anyone else has more info I would appreciate it.

Once again thanks for your reply Ali, Good luck with everything.

EMMY:)

Your welcome Emmy

The reason Crown say you need your own container is because it's your stuff only and they packed it, they know whats inside it and there will be no hold up with customs, my friend who went with Brittinia packed some stuff herself...and the customs opened every box she packed.......

Also top tip from the man at crown....take plenty of extension leads then you only have to change 1 plug in OZ.

I think its time we all got comparing quotes!

We are taking the lot and have been told a 40ft container is the order of the day!

Crown have quoted £5857 + 3.2%marine risk cover + 5%insurance (shared use container) and £6579 for sole use container + 3.2%marine risk cover + 5%insurance.

Pickfords have quoted £5328 (sole use container) +£300 Aqis+ 3%marine insurance

Crown have also been very poor with contact with us. I wanted to go with crown because of the high no. of recommendations, but we have had poor contact with them and the price difference seems horrendous. Are Crown really worth the difference?
How much negotiation room is there?

Thanks

It Pays To Look Around

I'm still working on the saga of the quotes for the move. Well it's probably the biggest thing we all face after apart from saying bye bye to all the fam and friends. I'm working on 3 quotes and don't have one off Crown yet.

But for anyone interested so far I have
JOHN MASON @ £3,500 (Exclusive 20ft reefer Container)
********* @ £2,634 They have estimated on 600cubic feet.

Cheapest is not always best, but some sort of explanation is needed for almost a £900 difference. You know what i mean, that's the price of a flight ticket and more. So I will wait and see what the man from Crown has to say when he visits to do an assessment and let you know what the score is. Remember we are not taking half our house contents, so we will have to see what happens with Crown.

Pickfords did ours under contract for the Australian Defence Force, they were ace and the best bit is it is Pickfords the other end not a franchise!
