Hi randpm
Fear not. My mother was 85 when her meds were done. She suffers from osteoporosis (brittle bone disease.) She has suffered all 3 of the most common fractures associated with that (spine, hip & wrist.) As a result of the damage to her spine she can still hobble a few yards with the aid of a zimmer frame but she is now largely wheelchair dependent. She also suffers from chronic high blood pressure and various other minor but chronic ailments, all associated with old age. She positively rattles with pills every day.
Mum's BP is normal with drugs. Her disability was not an issue. The Medical Officer of the Commonwealth requested a geriatrician's report. The geriatrician said Mum is "well preserved", very alert and has a good sense of humour. That was that. Mum may be disabled and very old now but she is in no sense decrepit. She sailed through the meds in the end, so do NOT worry,
You are NOT required to purchase private health insurance in Oz because Contributory Parent visas automatically provide the Full Monty with Medicare in exchange for the dosh - that is what the deal is about. The bulk of money is a contribution towards future health care costs in Oz and even Bonzai is not trying to take two bites at this cherry!
Cheers
Gill
