Hi guys
Can anyone enlighten us on these areas ie. Caloundra, Maroochydore, Noosaville?
We stayed in Maroochydore ealier this year but didn't really go far from the beach to the nearest shop to stock up on supplies, apart from having my best ever fish and chips from the chip shop right next to the camp site. If my memory is right the camp site was called cotton trees. Anyhow, the question is i've been on google earth all evening and just wondering if anybody has any opinions on these areas?
Thanks for any replies.

We are staying nearby. All these areas are lovely you mention. Cotton Tree in Maroochydore as you know has lovely beach, cafes and there is a big shopping complex in maroochydore itself. There is alot of work here. We visited Caloundra yesterday and this too is very beautiful although in my opinion maybe slightly more touristy (but i like that), an abundance of shops they seemed to go on forever, again work would be good here, the beaches here are fab too. Been to Noosa a couple of times a more upmarket boutique sort of resort, property is more expensive here. Beautiful natural parks and lakes. Beach was amazing here.
Haven't really venured too far into Caloundra so can't really comment on that!
Noosaville is lovely, really nice beach (but then they all are over here!) and there are more 'boutique' upmarket shops where the beach is at Noosa. Having had a quick look at house prices I think they are more expensive in Noosa. The National Park at Noosa is gorgeous and you can take about five different walks (rainforest/coastal etc) depending on your level of fitness. We went earlier this week and came across a four foot Goanna just as we started our walk!! As well as the lovely swim beach there is also the 'Noosa Northsore' which is amazing fun as you can get a ferry (2 minute ride) over to the northshore where you can take your 4x4 up the beach. You can also get a permit and camp if you want. Out of all the things we have done since we have been here that is one of our favourites and costs next to nothing!
Maroochydore has a lovely shopping centre which we go to quite a lot and the beach is also lovely, but we decided to live about 10 mins drive away in Mountain Creek (near Mooloolaba). Maroochydore has loads of different shops/butchers/fruit n veg in different areas and is good for shopping!
Having said all of that, before we arrived we had narrowed it down to two places we would have liked to live & they were Mountain Creek/Maroochydore. Due to the schools etc we opted for Mountain Creek. But to be honest it is really difficult to judge until you actually get here and have a look for yourselves.
Hope this helps and is my opinion on the areas, but I am sure you will get loads more!!
Heather

Hi Caroline
Thanks for your swift reply. Have you checked out any of the property prices there? I should have done but was too lazy as the beach we stayed on was too nice to leave. I'm now thinking it could be a nice area to live, as long as there is work there.

Hi Heather
Thanks for that.
You mentioned schools, deciding to opt for Mountain Creek over Marroochydore. Would you mind elaborating on this please. We have 2 children so this is something important for us.

Hi Tina,
I'll try!
Mountain Creek has such an excellent reputation, where ever you go everyone has heard of it and says that it is such a good school. The primary school has just over a 1000 kids, and although this sounds a lot, the areas are 'zoned' so that year 6 & 7 play in seperate areas and finish slightly earlier than the other kids. When we looked around Mountain Creek my son was so excited by the school he wanted to start there and then and we had to persuade him that he had five weeks off first!! Also I have since worked at the school on a casual basis and just love the way that the staff treat the kids.
In addition my daughter started at the High School (which is just across the road from the primary). The presentation/talk we had from the heads when we were thinking of sending her there was excellent. They are already getting the kids at year8 to think about their career choices, which wasn't the same as the school that she left in England. The only issue that she had here was the school uniform, which is very strict and has to be black leather lace up shoes, school pleated skirt, formal blouse/tie on Mondays. golf shirt the rest of the week. but to be honest I told her that another 1200 kids were going to be wearing it. The High school is divided into four 'sub schools' as it is so large (Bribie/Fraser/Moreton and can't remember the last!). Also in year 8 & 9 she starts at 10.30am & finishes 4.10am (which she loves!!). But will be a bit of a shock from year 10 as she starts at 7.30am and finishes around lunch time!!
I am not saying that Maroochydore hasn't got any of the above, but we had spoken to a couple of people that were a little negative. Also the location was an issue for us as it wasn't really within cycling distance etc etc.
Again all of the above is just my opinion, but if you want any other info then please feel free to PM me, I know what a difficult time it was choosing schools etc etc!

Thanks for all that info on schools. When i tell Chelsea how long the school day is i'm sure she'll be smiling.
Can you tell us, did your daughter settle quickly?
As you rate the schools so well in Mountain Creek, what else appeals to you in this area? We're not familiar with this place, although we have heard it mentioned on this site before.
I think the first couple of days were hard for her at the school as she didn't know anyone/where to go etc and I do think it is harder for teenagers, but after that she hasn't looked back. She has lots of friends now and has sleepovers and goes camping etc with them.
As for Mountain Creek we wanted somewhere not too far from the beach (that wouldn't cost us a fortune) and it is appx 5-10 minute drive to some gorgeous beaches (Mooloolaba/Point Cartwright). Its only appx 30 mins drive from Noosa (which we also love). Also I wanted somewhere that kids could be kids and do things like riding to school or to the local shops etc and Mountain Creek seemed ideal for this. It also has an 'older part' and a 'newer part' so depending on what it is you wanted (whether it be newbuild or older style house) it seemed to have the best of both worlds. Another consideration for us was that could we sell the house quickly if we needed to in 2 years time if there was a problem with PR (sure there won't be...but just in case).
It also has lovely walks (around a small lake) and of course 'the creek' which we loved.
Thats our main reasons really, time has flown by and we have now been here four months and we are still loving it!!

I have had my brother on the case looking for schools extra although Amy is only 9, 10 by the time we get there, he has said that all his friend say Alexandra Headland has a very good school, we have decided that whn we do get there we would like to live around beerwah which is really close to my brother, also if you google australian schools it brings up heaps and you can get the web pages....i just love the fact they all were the same to school.
