Help we only seem to have a 110 points. Any suggestions?

What is the SIR visa? Would hate to go on this and have to come home. Do you have to pay twice for this? Can you get family tax benefit on a temp visa. Has anyone gone on this visa? please help? jane

Hi

What visa were you hoping to go on? The Skilled Independent 175? You could do the IELTS exam to gain 15 or 25 points depending on your ability with the english language????? You already get 15 just by holding a UK Passport - have you taken that into account?

Good luck!

The SIR visa (subclass 495) doesn't exist as such for new applications since the 01/09/2007 changes.

The replacement is the Regional Sponsored visa, subclass number 475.

Maybe have a chat with a migration agent to firm up on your visa strategy from here ...

Best regards.

Generally, you don't have access to family tax benefit or Medicare on temporary skilled visas.

Cheers

By the same token, investment income and capital gains arising outside Australia are not assessable in the hands of temporary skilled visaholders who are tax resident in Australia ...

Best regards.

Hi talisman

Have you allowed 15 points for english language in your total of 110? If so, you can gain the extra 10 points by sitting the IELTS exam if you score 7 or above in each module. However, if you haven't added 15 points yet, which you do get automatically for holding a UK Passport, then that would take your points score up to 125 - enough for the 175.

Regards,

Carla
