Tourist ETA after lodging 457 visa application

I have a question. If a person has lodged his visa application offshore for subclass 457 (employer sponsored), can he still enter Australia on the standard three-month tourist ETA prior to the 457 visa being granted or while waiting for the 457 visa to be processed and granted?

Advice appreciated.

Hi there, I have lodged a 457 application under a real time limit as my new employes want me to start October 1st. They have considered the ETA route as I already have one from a business visit last year. Apparently.... by entering on an ETA we are entering the country with the intention of a temporary stay. With a visa application under process for a long stay visa it 'could' be perceived that we are not abiding by the terms of the ETA to enter. Therefore have been advised, although chances are slim that the application would be picked up at immigration, it would not be a good move to get caught! Also, if in country when 457 granted would need to leave country again to then re-enter on the new visa.

Does that help / make sense? This is 2nd hand information now and only have my new employer's investigation results to provide, but hope that it helps.

Good luck!

The main thing about an ETA is that you CANT work in Oz on this visa ... because it is classed as a "holiday/tourist visa"

Fingers crossed things are sorted ASAP for you
