So I take it I am only entitled to an extra 10 points towards my visa??

Hi Rob

 

Im in the same position, IELTS band is done on average generally as per their website, however the Oz visa process takes your lowest score as the band, I got an average of 8 but can only claim for 7 on my application, which is the same as you and only get 10 points.

yeah, it's a shame it's not based on the average.

 

if you need the extra 10 points you can always do it again

if you need 8's, you need to get at least an 8 in each section for 20 points, you have at least 7 in each section so 10 points.
