Not 100% on this but no one else seems to know today either!! - from other people's posts I understand it's only dependent children under the age of 18 who need the checks if they're not coming. I think it's so Oz knows what they may get if something were to happen to the people they're staying with.

Hope someone will put me right if it's wrong!!

no they dont need medicals our daughters aged 21 and 18 didnt need medicals or police checks because they are classed as independants but if half their family live in australia they should have no problem getting there in the future.

As they're independant, they would have to apply for their own visas I think anyway

Good question. Now its got me thinking!! I have 3 children over the age 0f 18. Son who is now just 18 wants to join us when he leavs uni, but we're not sure whether to go through the process of getting his visa and stuff now, or to let him apply himself when he's ready, but bearing in mind he may want to leave Uni early and want to join us. Other two are both in the Army and I will live it up to them.. I know doesn't answer your question, but just letting you know, dilemma is hard and it does help to air. Maybe someone out there has the answer to both of us!!!

Our daughter is 21 tomorrow and will not be migrating with us..she has to apply in her own right as she is a non dependant..She did not have to have medicals or police check...Our son who is 18 now (17 at time of application) is a non migrating dependant and had to have medicals and police check even tho he is not coming with us...If your son is at uni and is classed as dependant then i would put him on your visa...It saves a lot of hassle if in the future he does decide to migrate...If you do this he will have to validate before the said date and will have to migrate within 5 years

Thanks, thats helped a lot. Will def apply on our visa for him. Didn't realise the two non-dependents not coming out would need to go through the process. We've only just started the process, so all very nerve wracking and bewildering.

we are applying on e457 visa and they have just asked us to provide evidence that our 18 year old daughter is dependant on us. She was at college but because it was a two year programme she stopped the course to continue her studying in Oz. She has been working part time for the last 6 months until we had our visas confirmed. Does anyone know if this could be a problem for us. We have 2 other daughters aged 13 & 15 and we desperatley want our 18 year old to come with us. We have not heard anything from our case officer for 2 weeks now, since sending all the evidence.
