50 years old

Hello

My name's bob, I'm 50 years old and I'm a plasterer with 30 years experiance. My wife, 47 is a career with 22 years experiance.

I have heard many different things on how old you have to be too migrate to Australia. Some people say you have to be 45 others say you can be 55 if your sponsered etc.

I was wandering if anyone else who is over 45 has migrated to Australia and under what circumstances.

Thanks
Bob

Hiya Bob

Welcome to Poms In Oz!!

Yes, am afraid you definitely have to be aged 45 years or under at the time of application for any sort of Skilled Migrant visa (that is, to migrate to Australia using your Skilled trade).

We are migrating under the Student Visa, but as we hope this will also lead to Permanent Residency, we have to be under 45 years for this too.

As far as I know, you have to be under the magic 45 for a Sponsored Visa too, but plenty of folks on here are doing that, and they will put me right I'm sure

Take a look at www.immi.gov.au which is the Official Australian website for people wishing to migrate to Australia.

The good news? Well, New Zealand accepts skilled migrants up to age 55 years.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Rachael

I have been on www.immi.gov.au many a time but it has no age limit for the sponsered migration. Also my cousing in Australia tells me he knows people who have migrated by the sponsered visa who are over 45.

I just need someone over 45 who has migratted to confirm this!!!

Hi again!!

Just had a quick look at www.immi.gov.au and typed in 'age limits' in the search box, searching in the 'visas' section. Also just searched 'sponsorship' and def seem to specify age between 18-45 yrs.

I will see if I can find the exact link for you.

About 6 weeks ago I was talking to a nurse who was over the 45 year limit so they went To new zealand instead, last time I looked if you had been in New zealand for 2 years you could then apply to be an ozzie. not sure if this route is kosher, but New zealand will take over 45s if they have job offers.

Back again....

Went to www.immi.gov.au and searched in 'visas & immigration' department for 'sponsored visa age limits' and there's a whole load of info on there for you to trawl through!

Hope I'm wrong, but just from previous posts that people have put on, the 45 yrs or under rule seems to be pretty constant.

You could also try messaging some of the resident agents who post on here, eg Alan Collett, ptlabs, Connaust, Welshtone. They will maybe be able to give you other ideas.

Let us know how it goes.

Employer sponsored migration is possible once you are aged 45 or over, but you have to make the case that the applicant is "exceptional".

I secured a permanent employer sponsored visa for a 58 year old last year, but it wasn't an easy strategy ... not for the faint hearted in my view ...

Best regards.
