visa processing times?!!!!

Hi

Has anybody tried this ?If you send an email to this address(it can be blank without subject or message) aspc.processing@immi.gov.au then they send an automated email back to you which visas they are dealing with at the moment.

My concern is that it doesn't seem to tie in with some peoples time lines on PIO.

It says they they are currently processing offshore applicants whose visas were lodged on or before Aug 2006!(i'm sure i've read that correctly)

Love to hear any other thoughts on this.

Hi woody

We tried the adelaide skills process email address too and the dates never moved very fast and to be honest its not that great Our agent phoned us on the 1st of march07 to let us know that our CO had requested our meds & pc's. I asked her how could it be possible as I checked the ASPC email every week and we were not near that stage, dates still showing June06 (for skilled on demand) and we lodged 4th DEC 06. She said it was only a basic guide.

9 weeks since meds & pc's sent , still waiting.

All the best with the rest of your visa process

It's a bummer this one.

My agents explanation for it was that at this time of year (the migration period ends in June) they cherry pick which applications are going to be easy to process and get them shoved through quick to fill the quota of migrants that they have been set.

Sorry if this isn't any help or if it just depresses you

Thanks guys

A lot to ponder over there! It's all a bit of lottery by the sound of things.

Our hopes of getting there in September are vanishing fast!!

Earlier this year people were saying that there was about a 4 month turn around for MODL.

Oh well ,what can you do but sit and wait!

Hope your visa comes soon Col. I can't believe you've been waiting 9 weeks since sending your p/c and meds. What on earth are they doing?!

That isn't correct ... the migration regulations don't allow the Department to do that.

You will probably find though that applications that are "lower risk" are processed more quickly than those that aren't. This means applications from UK based applicants are generally likely to be processed more quickly than those from other parts of the globe - I'd be surprised if there are many UK based skilled visa applicants waiting to hear from a case officer where the application was delivered to the ASPC after the turn of this calendar year.

Best regards.

Thanks for that Alan,

We were kind of getting a feeling that that was the reasoning behind it. I don't suppose you have any idea for approx waiting times for acknowledgment or is it a case of how long is a piece of string?

We posted our application on 02/04/07 and understand from a friend that packets are taking about 2 weeks to arrive from England to Australia. There was a general feeling that there was a 4 month turn around for MODL applicants - is this still the case?

Thanks for the info

Paul

We e-mailed our agent just 2 remind him we were still here and asked him if there was any concern of no visa acknowledgement and he said no. It will b 9 months till we heard anything, like the co being assigned according 2 our agent.

So 4 u guys that have had your co,meds and pc all done within a couple of months u r very lucky,4 those still waiting like us,just keep coming on pio 2 pass the time away.

My visa went in 30th March.

Assuming you are in the UK 9 months before you hear anything is nonsense in my view.

I had a request from the Skilled Processing Centre this week for the lodgement of medicals and penal certificates for an application that was submitted in mid-March.

Best regards.

I quote from an email to me from a Manager at the ASPC earlier today:

"It's on the cards right now to start clearing the backlog. We are just trying to put many, many, many additional people in place as of next week to start on this task."

Expect a bundle of file references to come through in the next two to four weeks as the backlog is cleared.

Processing times for skilled visa applications ex-UK are about 4 months in my experience, particularly if you submit police clearance certificates and arrange medical examinations as soon as you receive a file reference.

Also, don't forget that police certificates can be scanned and emailed to the ASPC these days. They must be colour scans, or certified copies if b&w.

Hope this helps.

Alan, when you say 4 months on average for skilled independent visas from the UK, is that modl or non-modl? We are non-modl 136.

Thanks,

nic

Hi Anne and Colin

MODL is the short list of MIGRATION OCCUPATION IN DEMAND, This is a higher priority than occupations on the SOL (SKILLED OCC LIST)

hope this helps

Thanks Kim,

We are hoping to go out to Melbourne all going well - have interviews on June 18th - we are both qualified nurses (I specialise in cardiac and hubby in general medicine/respiratory) do you or does anyone know does this put us into priority list. If sucessful (employees willing

to sponsor us on business visa and assist with residency if we want to stay) so we keeping our fingers crossed for 18th

hi Anne and Colin,

I think certain medical proffessions are on the MODL, but if you go on the immi website and do a search for MODL, it should tell you on there whether it applies to you.

Although If you are going to be sponsored, I believe this to be a different kettle of fish, with different timescales and criteria.

It would be worth you having a look on the immi website, to see your options, as I believe if you are sponsored it is only a four year temporary visa.

Regards

Kim

The request received by me this week for medicals and police clearance certificates is for an applicant with a non-MODL occupation seeking the grant of a subclass number 138 (Skilled - Family Sponsored) visa.

This being a 138 application the Assurance of Support letter was also attached to the case officer's email to me.

Best regards.

Thanks Alan,

I have just been browsing through the imigration website (and even more confused than ever!!!) Just dowloaded all the gunk and will print off bits I think may be relevant. I note that you are from Melbourne so would appreciate a wee bit of advice if you know. As stated we are set for a few interviews in the proceeding weeks and the one company in particular is Epworth which holds a particualr interest to us both (public health) they have hospitals in a few areas of Melbourne - the ones in particular we are considering is Box Hill & Richmond area, being a local can you tell me are the close in vicinity and what are they suburbs like for living in or what other nice suburbs are surrounding either or both. (renting initially) prob about 1 - 2 yrs or less if possible

Hello again, Anne and Colin.

Technically, I'm not a local, as I live in Geelong (about 75km from Melbourne), and migrated to Australia just over 6 years ago => I'm not intimately familiar with the locations you have mentioned.

I'd consider posting your question on one of the Melbourne specific forums:

http://gomatildaforums.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/205608438/m/4201053691

For an indication of house prices, the cost of renting, etc maybe have a look at http://www.realestate.com.au

Best regards.
