Academic certificate & transcript question

Hi all,
My boyfriend is from the UK and thinking of the option of skilled migration to AU. I understand for his skills assessment he will need to provide a copy of his Uni certificate. Are academic transcripts a must? Or would the Uni certificate suffice?

Trouble is the Uni he went to changed to a different name and he graduated something like 15 years ago so we are not even confident we'll be able to get the academic certificate back from the Uni administration - we will try that - but very skeptical whether the transcript records will be available for retrieval as well.

Any advice if transcripts are absolutely essential?

Thanks!

What is the skills assessment body he's planning to apply to?

If VETASSESS are the assessing body, no problem, you either supply a copy of the transcript OR a letter from the University explaining why they can not supply with such. Other assessing bodies may need to know the breakdown of your units and this could be a problem e.g. for the Australian Computer Society - but you have to apply for the transcript first and see if it is available.

The assessing body is Australian Computer Society (ACS) - so I guess that means we have to get the transcripts.

Also he has professional technical skills certification to show he is a certified Java programmer and certified Java developer. I believe those will provide supporting evidence in the assessment of his skills? This is because in University the units one studies may not be the same as that in the ASCO code we are applying for today. He acquired a lot of the technical certification post-University.

Any comments?

Iris,

Yes, get the transcripts for the ACS, they'll want it.

If he's looking to get MODL points, he may need to provide a couple of good project reports to back up his claims.

Work references should also reflect his MODL experience.

If you need a professional once-over his application for the peace of mind, feel free to contact me.

If all you can get is a letter stating that they can not supply transcripts, will still be OK for ACS if the title of the degree is obviously IT or IT major.

All academic, so to speak, until you apply for the transcript, as they may surprise you and furnish you with a copy.

Yep, it is 13 years since I graduated. Didn't even know that Academic Transcripts existed, but a quick email and voila, one AT on my doormat, no charge!

It is the first thing I have actively done toward my application, so it was kinda exciting in a way!

Hi Iris

I meant to mention earlier that you had better get cracking with the application for your transcripts as it can take a few weeks to get something back. With ACS assessments taking around 10 weeks or more, you will be hard pressed to get a visa application lodged before the changes in September.

Hi
We were in a very simular situation to you. OH went to University YEARS ago (cos he's old - Ha Ha...).... For him to get his skills assessed he had to submit his degree certificate and also a transcript of his course. However, when he phoned the uni his course was so old and had changed so much they didn't have one... but they were really helpful ....
Firstly they wrote a letter ... 'to whom it may concern...'
This is to certify that name attended name of poly and was awarded name of degree and level achieved from date etc. This degree was validated by the Council for National Academic awards (CNAA)
Infomation for transcript purposes no longer avaliable... Enclosed is a copy of course content taken from propectus of that time.

They then enclosed a copy of propectus and also a letter showing the different contents of the course with their credits gained next to them.

We sent this all off and that was all that was needed....

Hope that helps

min x
