Hiya we looked into this but it worked out a little to expensive ,ther are quite a few posts in the transport section if you want to have a nosey around. One thing to bear in mind is Oz dont have the diesel cars like the uk ,its a new thing here with a few diesel models coming out a few month ago ,will you be able to get parts if needed,,even a mechanic who knows about the new electronic systems?Hubby is a diesel mechanic and says there isnt much about car wise, its all4wds and trucks .

Car

Hi Andy
I wanted to bring my car over with me too when we emigrated last year as it was only 2 1/2 years old but when I looked into it the shipping costs were very expensive plus you have to pay when it arrives for it to be fumigated, steam cleaned, inspected, etc etc and I couldn't justify the huge costs involved.

hi andy
if you get in touch with a shipping company they can tell you more, we spoke to one, the car can go in the container with all yur other belongings, and you only pay for the container, but on arrival you have to pay oz tax on it first, they calculate this from what you paid for it not what its worth now, then as said before you have to pay for it to be cleaned, it worked out that to take ours would cost about 5 grand english pounds and that was just for the tax, it does work out expensive, you also have to have owned the car for at least a year, you would be better speaking to shipping compant to get def prices,
all the best

Hi,

The best place to look is on the Aussie customs website and AQIS website, (google search will find both!) You will need to get an import approval for the vehicle before you ship and there are different ways of calculating the tax depending on the year etc. It has all the info on the customs site though. You do have to have owned it for a year though. My partner wants to take his motorbike over so its much the same process, although I believe there isn't so much tax to pay! You can ship a car with normal household furniture which keeps the costs down, and if you get it cleaned before it leaves the UK the costs can be kept down a bit. They stress it needs to be cleaned "as new" so the standards are pretty high.

Hope this helps a bit!

Eva
