How does my family go about emigrating?? help needed please!!

Hi all
My hubs and I have spoken to someone at visabureu.com. He meets the basic jobs skills requirements. We have no idea how to proceed. Any ideas?
The visa bureau people said they can help us for £3,500. But we want to know the best way to go about it all and costs.

Cheers
Jools x

Hi, we spoke to a guy called John Sylvester from Go Matilda, very helpful, always reply to phone calls, e-mails, etc on the same day.
Hubby is a joiner / carpenter and we have just submitted our TRA!!

Hi! It can be very daunting at first. I'd shop around for an agent first and find one you're comfortable with - I have heard a few bad reports about visa bureau. Go Matilda have been excellent so far for us and are a lot cheaper too!
After that, forums such as this one and Go Matilda's are great for finding out the answers to all of the questins swimming around your head (you can search for specific things).
Once you have an agent they'll walk you through the process, which involves getting your hubby's skills assessed (paperwork) then applying for the right kind of visa (more paperwork).
Then it's a matter of organising things like shippers if you're taking your stuff, or pets, and dreaming about life down under!
Where are you thinking of heading?
Nicola:)

Hi Nicola
We are thinking of Adelaide, possibly the coastal areas. My hubs is a windows and doors carpenter/joiner. I shall take a look at GoMatilda. Thanks for that guys. We really dont have a clue about anything at the moment it seems quite daunting. What is a TRA by the way. Do you know how much roughly it all costs to emigrate?

We are Julie - 41
Stuart - 41
Amy - 6
Cheers
Jools

Did they outline how you meet the basic job skills requirements - did they bring your attention to possible - have you got a written assessment ? or are you thinking of committing to that amount of money on a verbal OK?

Get a couple of written assessments done on your circumstances, get to know the issues involved. I will do an assessment for anyone although I will not take on your case unless you are resident in Ireland. Email me your c.v. an I can identify possible areas where you may need professional help then you want help, yo ucan source and Agent who specialises in the specific help you need.

My Email is tonycoates at eircom dot net

Jools - we are heading to Adelaide too, hopefully! Our visa's going off in the next few days so we're hoping for next June. Best of luck with it all and pm me if you need any more help!

We didn't use an agent but have heard alot of good recommendations about visa bureau - have used a few sites since starting our own process in Dec 2005 and haven't heard anything bad so surprised by your comment nic

Hi all
Thank you all very much for your help. Oscars mum suggested GoMatilda. My hubs has uploaded his CV and we are expecting a call from John Sylvester at GoMatilda by the end of the week.

Hi to Nicola
Where abouts in Adelaide are you moving to? We are thinking possibly Brighton, Glenelg areas. Still doing research on that. Can you recommend any areas for the usual stuff like schools, doctors, dentists etc. I do not drive either, will that be a problem getting to places?

Cheers
Jools

Hi,
May seem rather a dumb question-however all happening so fast.
My partner is a games designer and has had 2 telephone interviews and sent a 30 page design document to a reputable games company in brisbane. They cannot recruit locally as the games industry in Oz is so young and they need experienced designers from overseas. We are expecting an offer on thursday morning.
We have not even started the visa application process yet and i'm just wondering what the timescales seem to be.....
The job front here in the uk is pretty stagnant and Australia has really come out of the blue so we feel pretty unprepared....
Have been reading many posts and pored over the government web site but any info from fellow pio's would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
Zoe x
