Hello everyone...

I thought it is a good idea to have a Thread on the citizenship timeline for years 2013/2104 and it could help many people who are on their way to apply for citizenship

People who applied in previous years are also welcome to share their timeline as well. I just thought that the most recent the information is the more accurate it will be.

Therefore please share your timeline using below format :

  1. Date applied
  2. City/Council area
  3. Online / Paper
  4. Date received the acknowledgement email
  5. Date of the Citizenship Test
  6. Date of ceremony
  7. Type of ceremony (Urgent/Normal)

Above is what I thought is good to know. If you think there are other point that could benefit anyone please feel free to add .

I'm thanking everyone in advance

I understand the intention of the thread but I suspect there arem so few of us who still post on PIO four years after emigrating that we would be unlikely to be applying for citizenship in the same council area at roughly the same time as another member. Plus, giving out our council area may be getting just a little bit too specific for some of us.

I'm totally agree with you about the fact that giving the council will be too specific. That's why I wrote "City/Council area" . I don't think saying for example "applied in Sydney" would be so specific.

Anyways, thanks for your comment.

I will be applying early next year as well. I say Online will be much easier as you can check your application status etc... Not sure if the same think is possible for paper based.

I also can give you a brief info that I got from a friend of mine. He applied online in mid October. Did the test 2 days ago and they told him most likely you will be on next June ceremony (June 2014). he was kinda shock and asked them to book him earlier if possible and their response were : We can't promise anything but we may book you for April's ceremony. He applied in Brisbane City.

I live in Newtown and my application timeline as follows ( all 2014)

Applied online 27 Feb

Interview 14 Mar

Approved 14 Mar

Ceremony date 9 May

I am surprised how fast it happened , that's just over a 2 month turnaround. Maybe they have a target to meet.

My advice is apply online now, upload all the scanned info make everything accurate and and easy to read.

Best of luck.

As far as i know, there is no age limit for applying for citisenzhip. Under 18yrs old and over 60yrs old do not have to write the citizenship test though. you might just do the interview and thats it.

hope that answers your question. :)

Hi Everyone,

Can someone please tell me if there is and age limit on citizenship? many thanks

Thanks for sharing your timeline. I also am surprised how quick it was for you. Congrats.....

I applied around the same date as you and have my ceremony on June 12th , for me it was quick enough as it took 4 months from the date I applied.

Citizenship ceremony was yesterday, a nice feeling to have that certificate in hand! Now we just need to apply for our Aussie passports!

Good luck all, hope you get yours sorted soon!

Is the Acknowledge Email mentioned here same as the one which confirms the test date? or are they two separate emails? If separate then usually what is the normal time frame to receive the test date email?

Acknowledgement email is usually within a day or so - the test email is later.

For me:

Date applied: online 02/04/2014, docs attached 10/04/2014

Area: Geelong, VIC

Ack email: 03/04/2014

Test email: Still waiting....

Is it mandatory to apply for a passport - how much is it?

Not mandatory but if you want to leave Australia and come back then you'll need to travel on an Australian passport. I read on the DIAC site that when you get citizenship, your PR visa on your original passport expires - therefore no right to return on that document.

For details about passport applications, see this site - https://www.passports.gov.au/web/forms/entrypoint.aspx
