136 Visa - How long does it take?

Dear all

I am a registered nurse and am currently having my qualifications certified and registered in a state in Oz. I am then going for the modified certification with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council. This will take another couple of months then I intend to go for a 136visa and have already requested police CRB checks and have arranged medicals. If I send the whole package to the immigration department does anyone have any idea how long it will take to complete if all goes according to plan?

Thx

Angela

hi Jo,

thanks for the update. So basically it takes 6 months in all. Dod you send the medicals and police checks when you applied etc? by the way we live in Kent and am planning on going to NSW, but the skills assessment is taking time, fingers crossed we can formally apply in 6 weeks time if it all goes well

thx

Hi,

Ours is quite a quick timeline as well. Take a look below.

We were advised that it could be 8 months before we were allocated a case officer once we lodged our application. As you can see it was a little quicker.

My advice is not to get your hopes up that your application will be as quick as some on here but be reassured that at the moment DIMA seem to be pulling their fingers out and shifting some of the backlog. 4 - 6 months is the current wait that is being advised.

Hi Jo,

thanks for the information, can you let me know what was missed out in your application as we are not using an agent either and as you know there are so many forms to fill out. We have just ordered an Oz guide to help with the process.

Spk soon,

Ange

ps. I have my email on my profile if that is easier thx

Hi Ange, what is modified certification? I just applied to ANMC for skills assessment, then asked them to transfer my file to NBWA to get my licence to practice. I just got an asco code from the ANMC to put on my application. The 136 took 7 months for us (although we didn't front load any documentation)

You're probably already aware that each state holds it's own register and it isn't central like the NMC in the UK

Hi Ali

If you do it the other way around and apply for State registration and practicing license first - you then can apply to ANMC for "Modified Assessment".

Modified Assessment costs A$185, Full assessment costs A$630

As for the processing times for a 136, 3 to 6 months would be a fair estimate if lodged now, times may go out beyond the 6 months after the end of June.

Hello Angela. We have applied for 136 as nurses also. like Ali we went direct to the anmc for skills assessment. The proccessing times keep changing, from being quite slow to being really quick. I wouldn't rush at getting police checks and medicals as these are only valid for 12 months from issue. We did the paperwork ourselves also and found it really quite easy so long as you read the info booklets well.

Dear Tony,

sorry have been off line for a bit. Thanks for your info. I have received the provisional certificate and have asked when the next board meeting in May is (NT NMB)? I will then apply to the ANMC and hopefully get my application in to DIMA before the end of June!
Kind regards,
Angela
