If you're a motor mechanic, you'll be pleased to know your occupation is listed on demand.
In reality, there is indeed a shortage of mechanics in Australia, or at least in NSW where I'm based now. It's not easy to find good mechanics, and there's just a general shortage of them here. This means you'll get more points towards qualifying for a skilled permanent visa.
I would advise that you consider coming to Australia on a permanent visa - it's more secure and is probably more beneficial in the long run. Yes, it'll involve a longer wait, but there's no stopping you from getting sponsored on a temporary work visa while the permanent skilled visa is being processed (although it'll involve at least one trip out of Australia when the permanent visa is about to be granted, but that's another story).
