Wifes a nurse but i`m not skilled!!

Hi its been i while since ive been on here with the thought of emigrating. Now we have decided to do it and need some advice and thoughts from the members here. I am 40 yrs old and my wifes 38. My children are 12, 10, 7 and 3. my wifes a RGN nurse which is i understand is good but the thing is i am not skilled which is a bit of a worry to us both. I do have however a Masters Degree in Advanced Manufaturing and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Welding and Fabrication. But i havent used the theory since year 2000 and forgotten most of it. I would like to think i could get a job over there with out an apprentiship utilising my manufaturing degree and get a job within that sector. I do have a offshore and medical cert as well which i do work offshore in the uk waters as a trainee ROV pilot but thers not much call for that in Australia. We would like to know how much qualified nurses get monthly and would it be enough to live on (rent, food, bills, etc) until i find a job?
regards
Andy

Hello

I am an RN in a retirement village and I bring home about $5000 per 4 weeks before tax. Its enough to live on for us but like everything it depends where you want to live and what you are looking for when you are here.

Husband is a bus driver ( drove for 20 years in london) and had no job when we got here. He planned to have 6 months off and got bored! He called up Brisbane City Council and has just finished his 2 year apprenticeship in Transport! Paid for by QLD government!

Life sometimes is too easy here, well thats just how we feel and might just be the way we see things!!! Good way to be I supppose!

Like we said it all depends what you are after in life! Do you want to "live to work" or do you want to "work to live!"

Hope thats a little help! We came out on a 457 VISA and recently were granted permenent residency. Nurses are prioritised when it comes to going for residency!

All the nurses I have met over here, and there have been a few, have all done really well and get much better pay and conditions than in the UK. They don't seem to have any problems getting a job.
