Medicals

Do they weigh you with your clothes on, Its not that I want to strip, but as us ladies know your clothes add pounds, I would hate to end my familys dream because of my weight, also does anbody know what bmi they look for.
Many thanks

hi there,
I dont know how this stands for immigration medicals but, my OH has just had to have a full health check recently and was told by the doctors that the BMI has been blown out of the water and not used anymore by the medical specialists as it does not work for all people (eg rugby players), they now use a system of measuring your waist and body density.
Regards Kim

Hiya

I took shoes and coat etc off for weighing - my doc said that BMI is not a good judge - athletes such as rugby players have a BMI that shows they are OBESE! They obviously aren't!

I wouldn'y worry too much about it - i felt sooo much better when they told me that! I think they are just looking to see if anyone is extremely overweight and there may be health implications??

I was overweight as far as the BMI was concerned - I am size 12/14??? 5ft 9ins?? BMI was 27 - have nooooo clue what this means though - I did start running at the beginning of the year so my reasoning behind it is that Muscle is heavier than fat - AND I'M STICKING TO THAT REASON & THAT REASON ONLY!!!!!!

Just had meds done and OH told that he was classed as obese and gutted. He is a biggish build anyway, but the doc didn't know whether this would be a problem with them in Sydney. Just waiting now. Results should be sent off on Friday.

Underwear for us too ... I did ask him to knock a few pound off and add inches to my height - don't think he did though

Same here, I was (still am) really upset and was convinced that we are all gonna fail because I cant stick to a diet!
But after looking at a few threads on here n other sites I've calmed down a bit, after all my blood pressure was low, I dont smoke, Dont have diabetes, Could touch my toes, basically passed everything else (hopefully) and although I would love to be a size 12, I am a 16/18 which isnt to bad, is it? Again it was worked out on BMI.

Meds sent to Sydney last wk so will let you know how it goes.

The Broughtons has a spectacular aura aboutThe Broughtons has a spectacular aura about
We joined weightwatchers in September, partly in preparation for our new life down under and partly because we both felt overweight. I'm glad we've both lost the weight we have because I would be gutted to be told I was obese!

Will be wearing best matching undies on Thursday just in case the Dr decides I have to strip off - do hope not though! Surely it's about time that people realise that tall people weigh more though - I'm 5'8 and OH is 6'1, we'd look stupid and very ill if we were too skinny!
