Taking a Car

This is probably going to be the most stupid post ever but here goes.
My wife has just bought recently a really nice Vauxhall Corsa, nothing wrong with that but here comes the crunch..........she is wants to take it with her......please don't laugh.
I have told her that.
  • It won't fit in a container.
  • Lets buy another car when we arrive.
  • It will probably be a beurocratic nightmare.
  • I run the risk of not getting a 4wd when we arrive.
  • The only aircon it has is when you wind the windows down.

Everything was going fine until my mate said " Oh it will easily fit in a container, but you would have to get out of the hatchback when you drive it in the container " this all said after a party at home and about 10 cans of lager later. Who needs mates eh ! now she is more adamant about it coming with us, its becoming part of the family.
Please help me out someone, tell me there are many legal issues that won't let me get it in and convince her it won't fit in a contaner, she's even had me measure the cars width.
Help

It"ll cost you ...... you have to duty on it .... also bear in mind if its not an aussie spec motor, getting parts for it could be fun.
you could fill it with parts, but you"d have to pay duty on them as well.
flog it,and use the money to but summat in aus.

hi, i dont see what your problem is me and my hubby are having the same argument, he bought me a really nice car as a wedding pressie 2 years ago and i love it as its a limited edition megane sport, its my baby. we looked into it with a shipping company so here goes, yes it will fit in a container and you can also fill the car up with your belongings too. the cost all depends on how much you paid for the car not what its worth, to ship it you only pay for the container not what goes in it but for the car there is alot of duty. our car cost 20 grand years ago and although it has lost alot of that value it is still based on what you payed. it would work out over 5 grand to take the car, but however it would not cost that much to take his van so after being told there is no way we are taking the car the subject is now wether to take the van, seriously if he thinks im leaving my car and taking the van he is mad. he now wants to sell my car to get as much money for it as in a year it wont be worth as much and i can see the logic but if i sell it now and we dont for some reason get our visa i will heart broken to think someone is driving about in my wedding pressie. i know all you men out there will say its just a car and he is right but its a special car. it was my wedding present and holds much sentiment as does probably your wifes car. i may be being selfish and yes i am stamping my feet and whinging but i want to take my car . so i think work out how much it will cost by getting in touch with a shipping company and they will work it out fot for and then work out how much you love your wife and see if its worth taking the car to keep her happy. ha ha

I'm trying to persuade OH not to bring his beamer over. I think he thinks that as his particular model isn't available over in Oz yet it will be worth it - watch this space!!
