      No formal qualifications!!HELP PLEASE!!!

My husband has no formal qualifications, but has had 15 years experience as a joiner/wood machinist. He has been in his current job for 8 years. Can any one give us some idea of the type of evidence needed for the TRA,and where I can get a detailed discription of what the TRA would expect his trade to involve,so I can start gathering the mountains of paperwork!!!!!Also the last two firms he worked for no longer exist!!!!!!!!!!THANK YOU.

Hi there, My husband is a carpenter / Joiner, and has been for 10 yrs, but like you he has no formal qualifications. He passed his TRA no probs at all.

We did however use an agent as we had to be really specific on the references to show how he learned his profession.

      Hope that helps

No qualifications are no big deal with the TRA although I would suggest you get TRA advice from a Trade specialist rather than from a Registered Migration Agent who has got to know how to present an application to the TRA parrott fashion. You need to speak to an expert who understands your trade and how they may be related to other similar trades. As well as having the complication of being an "Experience only" applicant, you also have the misfortune to mention one of the very few trades thatare not on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL) - Wood Machinist. It may not be as simple as requesting to be recognised as a wood turner so you should seek expert advice. It may be that with some bench joinery that a joiner is the better one to look at. What I am saying is be careful, if you trust an "amateur" to do prepare your TRA and it comes back as a Wood Machinist, that is the end of the road for you unless you get Employer sponsorship. By amateur, I mean somebody who may be a very experienced Migration Agent but knows nothing about the ins and outs of particular trades eventhough they may have a 99% success rate with the TRA - I include myself as an amateur in trade matters, eventhough I have over 20 years experience in the Australian Immigration Industry. I believe Glenn Newton www.alms.com.au to be the best in the business - Ex-Director of the TRA and now also a Registered Migration Agent.

My husband hasnt any formal qualifications either - he is a chef.

Glenn Newton worked hard on our case and my husband was classed as a cook, Glenn appealed and got the classification overturned and husband is now a chef.

Worth the money because time is not on our side with our application.

I can recommend Glenn, he knows his stuff and is good at what he does.
