Its Official we dont have enough points so WHAT NOW??
We have spoken to an agent and as we thought we dont have enough points (neither on skilled trade) even with family sponsorship points. So as the post says what now? I have a couple of questions if anyone can help.
1. Has anyone had a company sponsorship and not on skilled trade list? ie is it worth emailing companies out there to see if can get a sponsorship?
2. OH's uncle has an established company, agent told us that we could maybe get a company sponsorship through his company if we could make either of our work history applicable to his company. Only problem is he has a steel company and our backgrounds are travel and hotel?? Anyone managed to get a sponsorship this way?
3. I have read the criteria for company sponsorship but cant seem to get my head around it. What would uncle need to do in order for us to apply via his company?
Sorry for the questions I am trying to arm myself with as much info a possible before we approach the family in Australia as when we do all the family will find out and at this point no one is aware of what we are doing, its not worth the hassle if we cant go.
Hi Em,
I'm not sure how it works, but I think you can invest money in Oz yo get more points. I'm sorry, but i have no idea how much, or how many points it gives you. soooooo vague!! I'm sure that someone will be able to help more than me thou!
Good luck and i hope someone has more info on the sponsership route, than i had on the investment...

Hi we didnt get enought points either and went down the sponsored route and i have been sponsored by a company and got a job and now just awaiting on visa approval then we are off to Sydney. Only thing with sponsorship is you have to go where work is so not much choice in where you prefer to be.
Try www.seek.com.au and type in your job title (or the one you are under in the skills part) where it says keywords and it should come up with loads of jobs availabe, you have to be patient but email them all asking if they do sponsorship, you could even email them a covering letter with your cv attatched which was what we did and make sure you put in your covering letter that you require sponsorship, put something like this:
I do not have a valid VISA for Australia so I would be looking for a sponsorship for any positions that you would consider me for. Any advice would also be much appreciated.
Thats what i put on mine and hey presto it worked.
Good luck and anymore info feel free to ask. Also try a general search on www.google.com.au as thats what we did and how i got my job.
r u on the skills list? our family is in Gold Coast so we do want to go there as they can "put us up" until we get settled. I did a search and lots of Travel consultants came up be didnt know if we would get sponsorship for that kind of position. Never know unless we try i suppose.
The Job i did for 9 years was Auxiliary Nurse to start with (what they were called then) then homecare worker, also i did homecare supervisor with the agency i strted my career with then when i started with a proper company called Social Services i was a homecare worker but also did some acting Senior for them too, we looked on the skills list to try and find the nearest occupation to the job i do/did and came across Care Officer which is basically similar to what my occupation is, so i then applied to the company who is sponsoring me under that occupation, they then told me whether i was qualfied enough after looking at my CV/Resume and what i had added to my covering letter. They then said i have all what they need and looking for and have given me a position of Care Officer/Disability Worker.
Let me know if you need anymore information and if i can help i will do my best for you hun.
What is your occupation if you dont mind me asking and i can have a look too for you?
Hi, have you tried gaining your points through TRA pathway D - work experience? this requires, detailed evidence of a skills transition into the trade, with at least 6 years of verifiable directly related work experience.
So really you are going in on relevant experience as appose to skill qualified if u get my meaning? My OH has just started working for American Express Travel he is Team Leader, prior to this he worked for 17 years for the same company as a impant manager, this is on the business travel side rather than retail. He has only moved as company her worked for lost the contract and other option was redundancy. He has done with job all his working life no other work experience.
At the moment I am on maternity leave, my work history is hotel receptionist to hotel manager and then last march they sold the hotel i was managing so it was either redundancy or so return to the hotel I trained at as assistant so that where i am at the moment, been with the company 11.5 yrs. Only problem is that I dont really want to work full time (sorry if that sounds picky) but got a 2.5yr old and 4mths and want to enjoy this time when they r small, but in saying that if it was the only way I would consider it.
