How long to validate the visa?

Hi
I am currently going through the lengthy visa application process and I am the main applicant. We have been asked undergo our medicals/ police checks but as I am 7 months pregnant I have applied for a delay in order to have the baby first. However my migration agent has asked for my husband and child to complete their checks. I understand that you have to validate the visa within 1 year of these checks, but does anyone know if it would start from my checks as the main applicant, or my family's as the 1st ones done. Bit confused. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi I'm sorry not to have any answers to your questions but I have a few questions for you. Please could you tell me how long - after you applied for your visa - you had to take the medicals /police checks and also are you certain that once the visa is officially granted that you have one year to enter Australia. We too are in a simialr ( no pregnancy though) position - not quite ready to emigrate yet and have diffciaulty finding out from the authorities the anwer to this question.

Good luck with the application

Hi Sue,

Sorry I dont know the answer to your question as I've not come across anyone else who is having the meds at a different time to the rest of their family. I'm sure someone will know on here though.

Rachel - we have been told that you usually have 12 months to validate your visa from the date of either your police check or meds, whichever is the earliest. I'm not sure if you are able to get an extension on that though. If you cant then you could always plan a short trip to validate it in time.

If you are suing agents then I would get them to check and let you know - after all thats what we pay them for!:D

Good luck
Lou

Hmmmm ... I would usually recommend that all individuals on the same application have their medicals together. Not sure why you would split the medical examinations, as the initial entry date will be determined by the earliest medical examination (assuming the police certificates come through later).

In addition - and as you might know already - baby will be required to have a medical examination.

Best regards.

Hi, thanks for your message. The whole process so far from starting with migration agents has taken 11 mths, although the visa application itself went to the immigration dept in Sept 06, so hasnt been too bad. If you haven't already got an agent I would strongly recommend them to help work through the paperwork. The whole family named on the visa have to visit Australia within 1 year of the medicals/police checks regardless of when the visa actually is approved. I am still waiting on an answer to my question from my agents, so am still unable to help you there. It has been a bit of a headache at times, but hopefully all worth it in the end! Good luck.
