Previous Visa, has it expired.

I am currenlty awaiting 457 approval to go and work in Australia for my company for 4 years (second time around).

In 1996 i was granted 'Permitted to Remain in Australia Indefinately' after going through the visa process. After arriving in Australia i remained for around 8 months before being moved to Bangkok by my company and eventually back to the UK, basically went full circle.

My question is, would the 1996 visa still be valid having stayed only 8 months in Australia, all be it this was 10 years ago. I have shown this on my 457 application but recieved no comment, i assume ths visa had become invalid due to my short stay and the length of time since i was last there.

Any comment would be appreciated.

I dont have a clue but im sure if you pm'd Phil he would or you could try giving an agent a call they dont charge for a phone consultation so it would still be free info ,good luck anyway and it will save some headaches if it is still valid

Have you been granted your new 457 visa?

If your 457 has already been granted, the question of whether your old permanent visa is still valid no longer arises.

When your 457 was granted, your old permanent visa (whether still valid or expired) is overridden by your 457. You are now a temporary resident of Australia.

Are you planning to obtain permanent residency again sometime in the future?

Peter

Permananent Residency

Peter,

Thanks you were correct, i visited the immigration in Melbourne and the 457 superseeded the previous visa.

My company has already asked me to apply for residency and will sponsor any application, so i will be starting the process soon.

Paul
