I am a current serving Customs Officer of 16 years and hold the post of 'Intelligence Analyst'
Previously, I was a Baggage Officer at Manchester Airport (yes, one of THEM!!!), but when I enquired at the time, there were others in a similar position.
They said that as the post was able to be done by a Australian native, I couldn't use the 'skilled' route.
However, the post I now hold is regarded as a 'Specialist' post in the UK.
There are only two posts within Customs that hold this title.
Investigator & Analyst.
I have read with interest that certain states are recruiting UK Police Officers.
The South Australia and the West Australian Police Forces were recruiting in the UK for experienced police officers but I think all applicantions are now closed.
The idea was that the sucessful applicants would be sponsored by the relevant force.
Unless your occupation is on the 'Skilled List' there is very little chance of you gaining entry to Australia as a permanent resident.
