parsonsbigfamilyadventure Posted November 10, 2006 Share Posted November 10, 2006 Hi can anybody offer any advise, we have had our skills assement back from the TRA and they have said yes, we was going to get straight on with an independent skills visa 13 but we have opted for a STNI in western australia, we have enough points to go independent visa, would anybody else have or choosen this route, we decided to do this ourselvews so we havent got an agent, can anybody offer any advise many thanks johanne Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It is the best visa to go with and you are permanent from the day you arrive. Less paperwork and less stress. STNI does not speed up the process at the moment and processing times are largely the same. Alan Collett Posted November 12, 2006 Share Posted November 12, 2006 Technically the State Nominated skilled visas are granted under a visa subclass that has a Ministerial Direction in place requiring the DIMA to give priority processing to such visas in preference to those visa categories that are not the subject of the Direction. As Phil says, at present there isn't a material difference in the processing times of visas that are the subject of priority processing and those that aren't, but there's no guarantee this will remain the case => if you are relaxed about committing to a State for a couple of years I would consider seeking the State Nomination. I'm not clear from your original posting whether you have already secured a State Nomination, but if you haven't the process of securing a Nomination in WA is usually quite quick, at about 2 to 3 weeks (and often only a few days) - for more information see http://www.migration.wa.gov.au Note also that the Skilled Independent visa (subclass number 136) and the Skilled - State/Territory Nominated Independent visa (subclass number 137) are subclasses within the same visa class (class BN). This means that you can apply for a 136 visa and move to a 137 with a State Nomination after your visa application has been submitted if you wish. Best regards.
