boom
Hello, I would like to apply for the 190 visa and already make up 60 points without employment experience an so have decided that I do not want to claim points for employment experience (in order to minimise risk of DIAC rejecting my application, as i am not sure what DIAC would consider skilled employment. I have had the same role and job for the past 2.5 years but was only awarded my post grad diploma in March 2012 so employment after as my postgrad diploma award date has not reached a year yet but employment after my bachelors degree award date has). But from the VETASSESS assessment I am worried they are saying I must have post-qualification experience in this nominated occupation I got my skills assessment letter today from VETASSESS and am very confused and need help in understanding what they mean exactly. The nominated occupation is Geologist. This is what the letter says "Required Skill Level: This occupation requires a qualification which is assessed as comparable to the education level of an Australian Bachelors degree or higher degree, in a highly relevant field of study to the nominated occupation. In addition to this, applicants must have at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level completed in the last 5 years which is highly relevant to the nominated occupation"..... On the next page, under Field of Study is list both my qualification (BSc in Environmental Science and Post Grad Diploma in Hydrogeology) and then says "Qualification is in a highly relevant field of study".... But it does not specify which qualification is in a highly relevant field, does it mean both?? So is one year of post-qualification employment only after my post grad diploma or after my BSc?? Under the heading "Duration of employment" is says , "based on the evidence provided, at least one year/s of employment is assessed as highly relevant to the nominated occupation and completed at an appropriate skill level in the five years before the date of applying for this Skills Assessment. The employment above meets the minimum requirements for this occupation". ok so does that mean I do have one years post-qualification employment??? so how they work this one exactly? Under Skills Assessment Outcome it says "Positive, based on the evidence provided, the qualification/s and employment described above meet the requirements of your nominated occupation and are assessed as suitable for migration purposes" so is that all that matters, they have considered it to be positive and it is up to me wether or not I claim for work experience for points? The last pages goes on to say my qualification is comparable to an Australian Bachelor degree and AQF Post Graduate Diploma. So I know this may sound stupid, but what the hell does this letter mean? Must I claim for work experience for this occupation and do I have one year post-qualification work experience?? should I wait till March 2013 and that way I will definitely have 1 years post-qualification work experience no matter which qualification they consider. What do you think??
Rupert
It is a positive skills assessment. I am struggling a little to understand what is not clear to you?
boom
must I claim for one yrs work experience post post-graduate diploma award date or is one-years work experience post BSc award date suitable?
kennylane
No, you don't need to worry about any of your experience in relation to your post-graduate diploma as this is above the required level of education or qualification for VETASSESS - in effect it has not really been considered. You have quoted their text stating that the requirement is 'comparable to an Australian Bachelors degree or higher' which your BSc is. What do you think?? Which of your qualification did you nominate for the assessment? BSC or post graduate diploma? May be they have assessed both your qualifications as comparable to AQF standards. Your occupations falls under Group A I presume, which requires 1 year post qualification experience. If I were you in a confusion like this I would rather wait till March 2013. If I were you in a confusion like this I would rather wait till March 2013. I submitted both my qualification to VETASSESS. I wrote a cover note to them asking to assess my BSc but gathering from what is written in the letter it looks like they have accessed both. I guess the safer bet is to wait till March but I am a bit worried my occupation may come of the state list (as its updated monthly) and I am pretty eager to get the ball rolling for PR as soon as possible..... hmmm what to do? You have quoted their text stating that the requirement is 'comparable to an Australian Bachelors degree or higher' which your BSc is. I think you may be right!! My occupations falls under Group A, which according to the vetassess website requires.... Group A Occupations require a qualification which is at least at the level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree, in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation. In addition to this, the applicant must have at least one year of post-qualification employment in a field which is highly relevant and at an appropriate skill level to your nominated occupation completed in the five years before the date of application for a Skills Assessment. Employment needs to be undertaken after completion of the highly relevant qualification. Pre-qualification employment cannot be considered for Group A. So presumable, as my bachelors degree is comparable to an Australian Bachelor degree any work experience post bachelors qualification can be considered SKILLED? (Can someone please confirm this??) However should I be a bit worried that the letter doesn't say specifically that my bachelor degree is a field highly relevant, it rather lumps both my qualification
