G'day all!

Hi, my name is Emma. I'm planning a move over to Oz next year (Melbourne) where I hope to work as a nurse under the 136a independent skilled visa. I am making the move on my own so it obviously appears a bit daunting at the moment!!!

I have a few questions and any advice would be great, also if there is any one else out there planning something similar it would be great to hear from you.

I am hoping to have my skills assessment and the visa application sent by January time, when am I likely to be appointed a case officer? I know this is hard to answer but the reason I ask is I am planning to be in Greece from June-September next year and I don't know whether to:

A: Apply in January and front load my medical and police check before I go to Greece around May time, regardless of if I had been apointed a CO.

or

B: Send the visa application in just before I go in May, then the time I am in Greece would be the time waiting for a CO. My worry with this is that medical and police checks would be requested before I got back.

How long do you have after the medical and police checks are requested to submit them?

If any one could help with any of this I would be very grateful.

Hi Emma,
I have been granted a 136 visa, i am a nurse too.
I had skills assessed in Feb 2007.
I delayed sending application until December 2005 as i was getting married. Application was acknowledged Jan 2006. Visa granted May 2006.
We had medical March 2006 unrequested.

You will have to have the skills assessment done before your application goes off. It can take a while to gather all the documents you need. My skills assessment only took 2 weeks to come back.
You have to get the ANMC to send confirmation that you are registered. When you do this get them to send it to the nurses board in Melbourne as well, as they dont charge extra (it costs £30). You can send it to 10 places.
The ANMC will keep your certified copies of the documents so when you apply to be registered in south australia email them and they will forward all your documents for free.
I have just received my Queensland registration back, took 2 months.

I dont thnk it will matter if you are in Greece as they will email you to say you have a case officer. you can check your emails from Greece.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions
Claire

Hi Clare,

thanks for the info. Where in Queensland are you planning on moving to? I was considering Brisbane for a while and in a way am still torn between Melbourne and Brisbane, mainly because of the better weather in Queensland!!!

I have registered with a nursing agency called Geneva Health, have you arranged for a job already or are are you waiting until you arrive? I am hoping to work within cardiology.

best wishes, emma.

I am moving to Brisbane. I have got a job at the royal brisbane hospital.
I used Geneva, they have been really helpful.

I think its best to arrange a job before you go, as its easier to get references while you are in UK.
It can take a few months to get registration in Queensland aswell.

I will just need to get a tax file number when i get there and i will be ready to work.
