Skills database - it is worth it for PR/marketing jobs?

Hi,

There are a few posts here about the skills matching database and I was wondering whether anyone else has any thoughts on it.

There are only 14 people in PR who have placed their details on it - is that a good thing (less competition) or is it a bad thing (no one looks there for PR people)?

It will cost me £150 to put my details up, as I need to have my qualification assessed.

I'm hoping to be sponsored by a company (which means that I wouldn't have to pay this assessment cost I believe). I'm not sure if its worth it.

Any thoughts?

Cat

Hi Cat,

I didn't have to pay to go on the skill matching data base, is it the one the DIMIA send you the form? If it is then I definatley didn't have to pay. I'm a nurse not in PR

Sorry Cat

See you are in marketing. Are you applying for a Skilled Independent Visa ?. Have you had your points assessed?

Hi Phil,

I'm in PR. I don't have enough points for a skilled independent visa, so I am looking for a job and a sponsored visa.

As far as I've been told/read on the immigration website, I won't need to have my skills assessed for that, which is why I'd rather not pay for an assessment to be placed in the skills matching database if this is not a place where PR agencies are looking for workers.

Finally! Someone else in PR! :o) I have sympathy with you x I can't pass the skills assessment as I haven't got a degree but I've signed up to do an AQF diploma through distance learning as I'm hoping this will do under another occupation as I've got an uncle who will sponsor me.
PM me if you want and we can have a chat - I've been trying to work out a way to get a visa for about the last two years so might be able to shed some light on things for you x
