Ack. 11th April, must get a CO soon surely, my agent doesn't recon we'll get one until Sept Oct time. Right.
Anyway my question is, once we have the holy CO if all the paper work meds etc is ok how long has it taken for those who already have their visa from...
CO------VISA?
Been looking at flights getting really excited, impatient, scared, frustrated, bored, bored, bored, bored, bored with waiting!  :? :o :( :) :D :x
From the CO requesting the police & meds checks to the visa grant letter being issued was less than 5 days, we then sent the passport off to London for the Visa to be inserted, this again only took about 5 days.
It was such a quick turn-around that it felt like a dream, going from the "what if" to "it's here".
I'm trully feeling for all you lot who are still waiting and my thoughts are with you all.
Thank you Neil,
It's the timing of everything that is getting to me, selling the house and getting the flights. Do I put the house on the market now, good time to buy and the garden looking its best and risk selling it before we get a visa or wait until we have the visa Sept Oct time and swallow the fact that we'll have to do another Christmas here.
If only they'd just put me out of my misery and give us our visas so I can get on with things!
Sorry to rant! Thanks again that is really useful information and I can confidently put my foot to the floor once our CO makes an appearance! :D
Hi Beki.. If I could do it all over again, I would definitely have started the ball rolling with selling our house at the stage where you are now... Having waited and waited and waited to get the visa we are now waiting and waiting and waiting for the house sale to go through, with all it's encumbrant anxieties... Even though the house sold quickly, it fell through once and I wish we had been in rented accommodation and just had to give a month's notice..
All this is based on the fact that we had decided last year that, if we were turned down for Oz, we would move elsewhere anyway. Luckily, we have made a crock of dosh on the house but I feel that every mortgage payment I make now, is one I could be making in Oz........
Yes I agree Krista, just had a chat with my OH and he's not prepared to start on the house until we get the visa. He says it's tempting fate and if we sell the house and then they turn us down, what then?
If they turn us down they better have a damn good reason after the amount of dough we parted with just to get this far!
I think I might just get the house tidied up and valued at least then once we get the visa and we WILL get a visa I'll have one foot in the door to the sale going ahead.
Rich has resigned himself to another Christmas here but I did so want to avoid that emotional stress! Our twins start school Sept. so Feb in Oz and I also wanted to be settled in an area so they can start school fresh with all the other kids!
Oh well, the waiting continues and all I've got to do is tidy the house...I hate house work! I'm sooooooooo looking forward to posting that thread, WE'VE GOT IT!
Sounds like we're in a pretty similar situation to yourself, we received our ack 10th April & our 4 year old daughter is starting school in September...kind of felt a little bit pointless buying all her uniform to use only for a couple of months but hey what can you do?? The thing I wory about is that when we get to Melbourne she will be too young to start school full time and will go back to 10 hours per week so I'm a little worried that it's going to confuse her!
We're hoping for a CO sometime Oct/Nov and based on this we put our house up for sale as of yesterday because like Krista we want to have no ties and be able to be up and gone once we get the visa's. I have to admit I had a bit of a wobble yesterday and felt happy and sad at the same time as I love my house and will be very sad to leave it. We plan to book our medicals during the school half term holiday in October and if by any miracle they get requested before that then we'll bring the date forward. We had already resigned ourselves very early on to spending another christmas here.
I've booked PSS removals to come out mid August to give us a quote on how much it will cost to move us and i've started doing an inventory of everything we're taking. I'm trying to do anything and everything I can to make sure we can leave asap but it's frustrating waiting for someone else on the other side of the world to do their bit! I know we'll all get there in the end though so chin up. :)
Know how you feel, we received our ack on the 4th April. We then decided to put our house on the Market in July, As we have heard so many horror stories of people with visa’s but not being able to sell there houses and the market has been really quiet around by us. SOLD in 2 weeks, thought that’s not a problem we will going into rented for 6 months and go in March as we should have had our visa by then.
Me and the husband got talking last week which we don’t do very often :D and decided what the hell we want to go as soon as poss. No visa yet so rang up agent and asked if we could frontload. He wasn’t happy about it but agreed. So we have got our meds on Tuesday t 8th August and our police checks were sent on the 1st August which should take about 40 days to come back. Estate agent reckons the end of September the house should be complete. Which leave us 8 weeks to get our visa.
Mad yes we are but very excited. If no Visa Crown removal will still come in and pack our stuff and take it to the warehouse and store it until our visa’s are granted, and then ship it off. There will be an extra charge but we will be living at my sisters so we will have no bills or mortgage to pay. If our visa’s are refused we will just by another house.
Last week it was life as normal House work, House work and more house work, but now when I’m doing my house work I do it smiling as i've got this funny exciting feeling. Hopefully fingers and toes crossed I will be doing my house work in sunny OZ in Oct/Nov.

There doesn't seems to be a standard time scale with DIMIA. We got a CO 4 months after application was sent in and that's when they requested medicals etc., Had medicals in May, Police checks came back in June and we got visa in July

Hi Anita,
I know what you're saying about the school uniforms, double with twins! Just been to the Debanhams sale and got three school winter coats for £6 each! Nothing like a bit of retail therapy to cheer me up!
I agree about confusing the poor little loves, they've had all sorts of introduction to their new school, their teacher is even doing home visits, then we'll pack them up and take them around the world and expect them to settle into a new school where they all talk strine!
OH keeps on at me now to get a job now we're looking at after Christmas, he really knows how to cheer me up..NOT :x
Why aren't you expecting a CO until Oct/Nov?
Thanx for the reply and the empathy!
Hi Stacey,
I agree get there asap! :D I can't understand why our agents are so anti frontloading? I frontloaded our meds and then told the agent and he distictly got the hump! Good luck with your meds and I hope it all works out for you in time for Oct/Nov.
Hi Ali,
I wish DIMIA were more consistant, our 4 months is next week and we have already sent off our meds and our police checks are sitting in our file with our agent, 4 months gives me a wee bit of hope to get to Oz before Christmas! Hope hope!
Hi all,
our application was lodged 23/03/04...136 skilled independant on MODL and I'm affraid to say we are still waiting to hear from a CO  . We have frontloaded meds and PC's and put the house up for sale. Our youngest starts junior school in september which is in a different building, with a different head and teachers to the infants and I was soooo hoping we wouldn't have to send him as it just seams so much of an upheaval to have him start and then to pull him out just as he gets settled .
I'm on a bit of a downer with everything at the moment I really thought we would have had a CO by now as the dates from Adelaide were moving along so well and just as they came up to our week they have been at a complete standstill for 3 weeks I know there are lots of reasons that can't be helped for this but what with having NO luck with selling the house I am just finding it hard to keep that happy smiley face on :D especially around those people that just can't resist saying
" oh, haven't you heard anything yet and still not sold your house I see, looks like it could run into the new year then"
I'm actually finding excuses not to leave the house at the moment so I don't run into (or over) any of these "well meaning" people.
I spoke to the agents yesterday and all they said was that dates were approximate and its not 5 months yet and things always slow down at this time of year as its the start of the new allocation year, but none of this has made me feel any better infact I think I was seceretly hoping that they would say there had been a BIG mistake and our visa had been granted but they had forgot to tell us
Anyhoo sorry for the whinge peeps but thats just the way it is this week.
I want my visa and I want it now and I want a cash buyer for my house who can complete in 4 weeks :!: :!: :!:
NOT tooo much to ask is it :?:
