General Skilled Visa form 47SK & form 80 + medical quest

G'day,

I've got my TRA stuff approved now i'm onto my main form, :D

Does anyone know if form 80 is to be sent out with form 47SK? in form 80 question 25 asks for date of arrival in oz and 27 wants your visa number? obviously i dont have these cos i havent sent the form of yet! :shock:

Also I'm insulin dependant diabetic and wonder if this will cause me to faill on the medical? :roll:

Can't answer your first question, but what does it say on the checklist for this type of visa? My Mum is applying for a Contributory Parent visa. I found that you have to read the checklist about 100 times, to make absolutely SURE that every single thing listed is in the bundle. In the end, I bought a bulldog clip to keep the whole lot together! Postmaster thought I was barmy, because of the weight of the clip, but it was well worth posting them a free clip to keep, I reckon!

On the meds, I am no expert, but I have heard that they are not usually worried about diabetes as long as it is well-controlled, and as long as other bits like your kidneys, heart etc are all functioning well.

I just sent the Form 47SK off on its its own, after reading my own question i thought it was more obvious Form 80 went later, on the medical front what you said sounds about right its just the bit i read about being a moneytary drain on the health service that worries me,

Hi Mark

The Medical Officer of the Commonwealth (MOC) would be likely to insist on an up to date specialist's report about your diabetes. The MOC's decision is likely to be made on the basis of that.

With medical stuff, the test is whether treating your diabetes is likely to involve "significant cost" and/or would it require the use of medical or community resources that are in short supply? (Organs for transplant, dialysis and residential care are all deemed to be in short supply.)

The PAMs (the textbook that COs rely on) describe a "rule of thumb" in which a total spend of $20,000 during the applicant's first 3-5 years in Australia is deemed to be a "significant cost." If the applicant is so disabled as a result of the medical condition (whatever it is) that they may be unable to work and fend for themselves financially, there is a possibility that State Benefits might have to kick in to give them a basic standard of living. Any potential State Benefit payments are included in the $20,000 above, and can raise the overall likely costs-bill exponentially.)

I don't know anything about diabetes, except that I've heard that insulin is not particularly expensive. If that is so, and your diabetes is well-controlled, isn't causing knock-on health problems etc, then it doesn't sound to me as if the Health Service would need to spend a significant amount on you in the next 3-5 years, nor does it sound as if you are likely to become unable to work full time in exchange for a reasonable salary, so you do not sound (from your description) like a candidate for State Benefits either.

I suggest you look at the Immigration Forum on British Expats. If you search the forum using "diabetes" as the key-word, you will find many posts by people who have diabetes of various sorts. I don't understand the descriptions but you probably would, and they might reassure you, I think.

Also, if you run the info in this post past your doctor, I would think that he or she ought to be able to take a reasonably shrewd guess at which way the MOC might jump in considering you.

Cheers Gill your a star. that sounds ok for me then beacuse i've only had two hypo's in the 10 years i've been diabetic, my eye sight, cholesterol and blood pressure etc are perfect every time they're checked. just depends how much my insulin is so fingers crossed,

They sound like people who know what a year's supply of insulin would cost at private medicine rates. Also your pharmacist should be able to find out.

Additionally, there wasa thread on BE some time ago in which somebody provided a link to a pharmaceutical website in Australia. That lists the costs of drugs both at local rates (ie to Australian residents) and also to tourists, who have to pay the full price for their drugs.

I'll try to find the link and if I succeed, I'll post it on here.

But we ought to be able to find out what insulin costs without too much difficulty, I reckon. Obviously, it isn't as straightfoward as the price of insulin alone, but knowing the price of that would help, I think. A chum of mine is diabetic and he said that insulin isn't expensive. I'll see if he knows any more, and where he got the information from.

Thei contacts page is the useful bit. I would ring one of their offices (with some of your insulin handy so that you can supply its generic name, because the brand-names are different in Oz as you know.)

I suggest that you ask for the Private Prescription price for it, and also for their National Health Scheme price. Apparently insulin is heavily-subsidised by the Australian Government, according to Health Insite. Obviously, the Government's buying power would enable it to buy insulin much more cheaply than you can, so the real cost to the Australian Health Service is sure to be somewhere between the two prices that these on-line people could give you.

I saw in your message that you have passed your TRA. We have just received the forms for the TRA assessment and my first instant was to panic. My husband is a plasterer (I do all the paperwork). We don't know where to start with it all, can you offer any advice please. Do's and don't. How detailed should the information be?

Hiya i know how you feel my hubbys a diesel fitter and i did all his paperwork ,infact i wrote that much i could probably do the job myself!
Have you used an agent ? our agent VISA BUREAU gave us a detailed job description listing the tools ,you would be expected to know,they also gave us a good idea on the format of references etc, you need to give as much detail as you can if you feel like your drowning on and on repeating yourself your probably doing it right, i set Garys out by going through year after year listing every tool used and every course attended in that year,this was for 20yrs so it was a fair few pages long.For company references we typed out the format (as these too have to be very detailed ) and got his boss and ex employer to check them and put onto headed paper ,this made sure nothing was missed out.I sent copys of every certificate he had and also listed them in detail at the bottom of the job description ,basically give them everything you can,,good luck and fingers crossed for you

Thanks for your response. The more I read messages on this website the more I think that I am doing most of the work researching what is needed instead of my migration agent.

I think that with the TRA it looks like detail is the main requirement so I had better get typing this weekend.
