Any Gas engineers applying through a plumbers visa?
Hi There
I am very new to the visa process, although I have spent the last 5 years getting the right qualifications to allow me to apply for a visa! I trained to be a plumber 5 years ago, and then trained to be a gas engineer. I work as a gas engineer and i am applying for a state sponsored WA visa 190.
I was going to apply to have my skills assessed as a Gas Engineer, but I have been told that, I would be better off having my skills assessed as a plumber, as in Australia, Gas is seen as just another strand of plumbing, not as a separate occupation. I have not had much plumbing experience, the work I do is all boilers and central heating systems. Has anyone else had any experience of this? I think I may go ahead with the plumbing skills assessment, what do you think?
Thanks

Welcome to PIO
It may be worth running your case past a Registered Migration Agent - to see which occupation would be best for your SKills Assessment, as to get points for work experience it needs to be closely related to your occupation you have nominated.
Try Go Matilda, Visa Buearu or Overseas Emigration - all well reccommended by other PIO members. You dont have to use an agent, but it is always best to get an assessment before you start spending money on skills assessments.

Hey,
I am interested to know the outcome of this one as well.
I want to train as a gas engineer, and then go out to Oz...maybe go to melbourne.
