English Family needs help to understand the emigrating proce

Hi guys.
We`ve disscussed this in length and have decided to emigrate to the Australia. My wifes a nurse and i am a ROV technician on diving vessels for the oil and gas sector. We have four children the oldest is 10. This emmigration procedure is quite complicated so i was wondering if there is any advice you guys can tell us what we need to do from start the ball rolling. I have tried to points calculator for us and we get in on my wifes occupation alone. So where do we go from here. Apply for a visa !! Where is the offshore industry situated?? These are the questions i hope to aquire from you guys. But if there is any help you can give i would mostly appreciate it

Hi Andy,

The first thing you have to do is get your wife's skills assessed before you can subit your application. All information is available on www.immi.gov.au where you can download all the forms and information books you will need. Nurses have to have their skills assessed by ANC and their webside is www.anc.org.au

The ANMC unlike the NMC in the UK does not hold registration. Once they have assessed her skills (which is for the visa application), she will have to register to work with the nursing board in the state you want to live e.g. Queensland, NSW, WA etc., but this (nursing board reg) can be done later and not a pre-requisite of getting your vias

Welcome to the forum!

Offshore industry has to be WA especially up north in PORT HEADLAND and KARRATHA but also the TASSIE STRAIT.
There is huge development on the North West shelf in WA and the expansion into the northern parts of the coast. Theres alot of flyin flyouts from Perth.
Theres a few diving companies located up there. I'm in the mooring business and I know a few of the dive companies upthere, however the bigger projects might have their own types. Oceanics is one such dive companyand Mermaid Marine is a facility up there.
You could try googling port headland and dampier port authorities for moreinfo.

You two as a couple should be in huge demand. I'd be tempted to send an email direct to some companies and find out if they'd sponsor you to come over. Also the state government are in a position to do this same if your skills are in demand.

It might be worth having a look on www.seek.com.au or contact WA employment agencies specialising in your skills to find out about potential sponsorship. It takes about 6 weeks for your visa to be processed and won't cost you more than medicals/xrays. They may even help with relocation costs.

Have a look at the new DIMA site (as from 1/7). There is a section on Nurses (in the skilled migration section) which are in high demand and are being priority processed. I would suggest that a 136 would be your best route under your wifes name.

To add to what Phil has said, a lot of nurses also emigrate under employer sonsorship initially, because it is quick and there will be instant job-security on arrival. I think the deal is that after a probabtionary period, the employer agrees to sponsor them for permanent migration.

However, I've read a couple of articles which suggest that being a temporary resident is not advantageous tax-wise, and that it is better to go for PR from the start if you can. Others could explain this to you better than I could.

I did a Google search for ROV Technician + West Australia. As someone else has said, there seem to be plenty of job-adverts for them.

Bear in mind though that I've endless posts about Perth recently (my sister lives there) and a lot of people seem to be worried that house-prices in Perth have become - or are swiftly becoming - as high as they are over here.

I too am a nurse and on a recent rekkie trip to oz was told that british nurses are being fast tracked through the visa application process in as short a time as 5 weeks, the sponsorship route is also quick however the downside to that is your wife would be contracted to the agency/trust that has paid for your sponsorship for upto two years which may sound like job security in the present nhs climate!! but in reality would be a nightmare if your wife hated it, with the visa route being quite quick its probably best doing that then your as free as a bird!!
Are you using an agent? we are and have found it much easier than people who are doing it themselves, but much more expensive aswell!!
