Skilled Visas - Ranking of applications under the EoI
I thought some readers of the forum would be interested in the following extract from newly published DIAC policy on the SkillSelect model:
To ensure that every EoI has a unique ranking, equally scoring EoIs will be separated by the date and time at which the intending migrant met all eligibility factors and points test score for a given subclass. The time of effect will be updated each time the intending migrant amends their EoI resulting in a change to their points test score or eligibility for a subclass. If an intending migrant changes their information, but it does not change their points score or eligibility, this will not alter their date of effect for the purposes of ranking against a particular subclass of visa.
The ranking of an EoI will also change if SkillSelect determines that the intending migrant is no longer eligible for a particular visa or claims against the points test have changed resulting in a higher or lower points test score - for example, if the intending migrant:
• has completed an EoI for a subclass 189 visa and
• has a birthday and turns 50 (exceeding the maximum age permitted)
they are no longer eligible to complete an EoI for a Subclass 189 visa.
Ranking is an objective and automatic process, conducted by SkillSelect daily in order to facilitate the issue of an invitation with no intervention by departmental staff. The ranking is based on the information provided by the intending migrant.
An example of how the points score of an EoI for a given subclass would change due to an intending migrant updating their details is as follows:
An intending migrant submitted a complete EoI for a subclass 189 Skilled - Independent visa on 1 August 2012. They claimed a points score of 55, which included 10 points for their trade qualification. They later completed a bachelor degree, and on 10 September 2012 at 0911 hours and 13 seconds AEST Australian Capital Territory, updated their EoI to claim an additional 5 points for this qualification. Hence for the purposes of ranking the EoI, the date of effect is 10 September 2012 at 0911 hours 13 seconds with a points score of 60 points.
This change does not effect the date of submission of their EoI, which is still valid for 2 years from the original lodgment date of 1 August 2012, when they submitted their EoI for the first time.
Periodically invitations will be issued to the top ranking EoIs for intending migrants seeking to apply for an independent or family sponsored skilled visa.

So by this I guess there is no point to lodge an EoI until you score enough point then? As the time you have enough point is actually the time it counts?
*On the side note: so the officer will actually cross check the documentation to see if you actually give the right time? =)

I just lodged it anyway. I intended to put my name out there for company sponsorship, but I was given a score of 45 for the 190 visa. I will book my IELTs and hopefully obtain 20 points. I had to travel to Oz in order to do a skills assessment which was a real nightmare. I will be more relaxed about IELTs as it can be repeated for less cost. The independent route is my insurance, as I have had a company renege on sponsorship for PR (so much for a handshake sealing a deal).

I was reading that state sponsored applicants are dealt with more quickly. I read that my job is top priority in WA. I could find no such information about QLD. Would seeking sponsorship from WA speed things up? I am getting to the stage whereby my eldest daughter is needing to move now or never with regards her education. She is fifteen and her future is the reason why I am beginning to panic about timescales.

If you are able to get State Nomination - your are automatically invited to apply.
WA - after you lodge EOI , you can apply direct for State Nomination, if you meet the criteria.
QLD - they contact you if you state you wish to be considered for nomination

I am curious about what occupation you intend to proceed? Why you need to travel to OZ in person for skill assessment?

My job code is 231212. I am third on the list in the link that lebourvellec posted. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority are the only ones who do the oral exam for skills assessment. I had to do an oral exam in the UK for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency years ago but, it isn't easy when you haven't studied in years and new regulations are coming out all the time. I also had to do a more stringent medical than the one for DIAC but I still have to do both. It's a costly excercise.

I need to travel to aus for part of my skills assessment also, very expensive exercise and there is only a 50% pass rate too which has managed to put me off so far as I can only afford the flights/accommodation and exam fees once.

Hi,
South Australia update my profession under their skill list and the visa points being reduce to 60 i got the eligibility and I have lodged the expression of interest and the state sponsorship for SA.
on the State sponsorship Application, they have asked for the EOI number, So what happens now. Does the State updates My EoI once they approve my sponsership?
How does this invitation thing works? i am bit confused here, can some one clarify this?
