Redoing the IELTS will likely be your best option, to get the points you require, maybe get a tutor to give you a little help in the Writing if you are struggling with that part. But your scores are very good and you should be able to get the 8's you require with a bit of practice.
487 could be an alternitive if you dont get the points from the IELTS, but I think you have better options than to go down the Provisional Visa route. Have you thought about getting State SPonsorship, not sure if there are any states sponsoring your occupation, but as a University Graduate from Australia you maybe able to get Offlist nomination.
You should run your case past a Registered Migration agent, as I think you could have more options open to you.uld
The NAATI exam is known to be very hard, and it is quite expensive, therefore it would be better for you to get the points from the IELTS, consideing the scores you already have. Many native english speakers have had to do the test a number of times (some Ihave seen sit it up to 10- 12times) to get the results.
Thanks a lot for that mate. Oh god if it is 540 places per year then its is going to be even more difficult considering 7 occupations come under 2339 occupation group isnt it? So applying for 189 with the passing mark i.e. 60 points would be pointless. The trouble is I am fresh out of university so I dont have a lot of industrial work experience (infact the only experience that I have comes from the internship that I did in RNSH over the summer). I had a look at the requirements for state sponsorships. Industrial experience in that particular state is a must have requirement for all these sponsorships. 487 is kind of a backup option for me as there is no restriction on the number of visas that can be granted and I just scrape the 65 points (regional relative sponsorship provides 10 points). Oh and one more thing, the degree awarded by Sydney Uni is a bit ambiguous as well. When I graduate, I will get my degree as Bachelor of Mechanical (Biomedical) Engineering (Hons.). Does that mean my degree is counted in the mechanical engineering quota (1620) or the biomedical engineering one (540). Do you know anyone who has done NAATI exams? it would be helpful if I can get that extra 5 points.

Hey all, we r waitin for my husband 38 yrs old joiner/carpenter to sit his EILTS test on 25/08/2012 to meet 60 points so we can submit his TRA skills assessment then EOI. I have couple of questions.
Q1: do work references for tra need to b certified by soliciter or is employer signiture enough?
Q2: are work references payslips n personal statement and cv enough evidance along with application form for tra assessment
Q3: is this the order if plain sailing. Submit IELTS test results in with tra application with above evidance wait on tra result thensubmit EOI wait for invitation then submit 189 visa wait to b granted then move to the wonderful country of australia?
Q4: last question honest. We dont want to b sponsored so can you knock back any company that looks at your EOI? Husband has friend who is going to set him up with job.
Your replies would b very much appriciated xxxx

there is a "Points score spread of EOIs by visa type" chart in page 1 of "Skill select activity summary July 2012". does anybody know how can I interpret this chart? by conventional method, just drawing a vertical line on each point and finding the corresponding number gives some confusing numbers : A) the sum of al 189 submitted EOIs by this method is around 3250 while the mentioned number in this very page is 2176 for the same period. B) the breaks in the curve line happens in a point between two score on not exactly on a point. why ?

Forgive my laziness and not having searched... is there a link/thread on PIO that highlights the Ceiling per occupation/nomination or category post July '12 reforms?
E.g. I am to nominate marketing specialist from the new CSOL under Direct entry scheme. Given that I fulfill all criteria how do I find out the ceiling in my respective area?
Thanks
Bonza!

Answered my own question
Occupation Ceilings are here : http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/ <---Go to the "Reports" tab on the right and you will find the occupation code vs annual ceiling.

My husband is currently filling out the Victroia University stills assesment form and portifiopicturs etc, so we are still quite away for the EOI process, but my husbands turns 40 in August 2013 does this mean that the visa etc has to be grated by this date or is it the date that the EOI etc was lodged?

Hi,
I received the Assessment from engineers Australia for claiming assessment for professional engineer. Im a telecommunications engineer with a work experience of more than 5 years. The assessment report mentions as standing for a Professional Engineer (skill level 1). What is the meaning of this skill level 1? does it imply any specific applications only?
I have a total points of 55 when it comes to 189 class visa(independent) and 60 points for 190 ( sponsored). My IELTS score is 6.5 for the listening part, the only score below 7 hence i cannot claim the extra 10 points for IELTS 7 band. Could anyone advice me whether I should go for the state sponsorship or redo my IELTS so that i can claim 10 points for it and make my points score to 65 for the 189 class visa (independent)
It would be a great help if anyone could advice regarding this.
Thanks,
Dushanthan
