      Hello Whelehan,
I got the same result as you today.. :( Is there no other option.
I will try to appeal first. All the topics in Accounting Theory are covered in my syllabus but in different course title. I hope they read through that because I included that in my documentation. It is very frustrating. I too am trying to beat the July changes.

Please let me know the outcome of your exam. And how much did you spend additionally for the membership and enrolment? Thank you!

while i did receive a positive assessment after passing the accounting theory paper, they said that my work experience prior to clearing this paper, which means all my work experience till last month, isn't considered as skilled work experience...its like someone who has done masters in literature is considered unqualified because they hadn't studied some poem when they were in school.

Oh my my!! Are you taking service of any migration agent? What did he/she say?

Did CPA say so on the assessment letter that work prior to this test will not be considered skilled experience? 'Coz, as far as I have heard and read, mostly all accountants, when they undergo assessment, are required to sit for one or two papers but it shouldn't mean any work prior to that was unskilled or unworthy.

yeah that's exactly what they have said in the skilled work assessment letter..i definitely want to appeal with CPA but don't think they will change the assessment..anyways it will not affect me if am able to get the state sponsorship once skill select goes live..i will have 60 points without work experience and i believe recent 12 months experience is also not mandatory from Jul 1st..so i will wait for sometime before deciding on appealing..

      keeping my fingers crossed!!!

If you had run your case past a registered migration agent, you might well have saved yourself some grief and some money.

Hi Russell - I took your advice for preparing the employment reference letters (thanks for your assistance), but as I didn't have enough points for 176 visa, I thought of first completing 3 years in work before further proceeding with the process of getting to Oz. Now that the pass marks have been reduced, I have managed to get on the boat. I thought there was no harm in applying for the assessment and being a member of CPA, I got the assessment done free of charge. But am dismayed at the assessment of CPA who consider all my work experience as being obtained prior to becoming academically qualified. I passed out Chartered Accountancy in 2009 and been working in a Big 4.

Anyways am just hoping that i get the state sponsorship and I need not appeal to CPA.

Walkwater, did you try ICAA or are they just as bad/worse? I was just wondering as I am hoping not to require assessment but if I did, which institute to register with. Like you, I'm also chartered accountancy qualified.

Hi Alice, what do you mean by hoping not to require assessment..I haven't tried ICAA but as far as I have seen if you haven't studied accounting theory as a seperate paper they will require you to sit for the said exam from any of the recognised education provider..I decided to register with CPA as getting the membership of CPA was easier when compared to ICAA..
