My main concern about not making the 1st July deadline is that I am worried that my profession may not be on the required list after the changes. I am a secondary Maths teacher.

The new SOL was introduced a few days ago - Secondary School Teachers are still on that list. But as a Maths teacher you should have no problem being able to get SS.

Thanks for that, don't know if we are going to go for state sponsorship now as we want to go to WA but teachers are not on their list.

From the information on the Skillselect page regarding the 190 nominated visa - it states that you can work anywhere in Australia - the 2 year obligation looks like it is removed.
Currently SS is a moral obligation to live and work in the state that has sponsored you.

Hi all Im trying not to get too excited as I usually do then get kicked in the teeth!!!
We were rushing to lodge a 176 befor July 1 but havent passed IELTS with a 7 (well in reading got 6.5...got 7.5,8&9 in other sections)
Anyway do the changes really mean we wont have to do the dreaded Ielts??
I looked at the new points system but it seems really confusing (well to me anyway!!)
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...fact-sheet.pdf
Is anyone else confused??
I think my points have dropped now???
My head is spinning
If we can I would like to do the new 189 then we can go where we want but looking at the above post is it right that you can still get ss but the 2 year thing removed???
This all seems too good to be true....Please let it be true...please please please
xxx

From the information on SKillselect it states for 190 "Allows visa holder to live and work anywhere in Australia."" http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skills.../subclass-190/
But currently the SS agreement is a moral obligation and there are restrictions put on your visa.
The points test is almost the same as it is now - pass mark has reduced by 5 points.
Therefore if you have enough points you wont need to do the IELTS, but you will likely still need the 10 points from IELTS - as currently you only have 50 points, I remember a previous post of yours (without IELTS and SS).
How you make up the points is up to you - either 10 points from IELTS (the can go for new 189 independent visa) - or 10 points from SS but its only for a provisional 489 4 year visa for regional australia.
