      looming joinery practical

hi all,has anyone recently done a vetasses joinery practical? I've got mine in 3 weeks and was hoping for a little heads' up. I've trawled through posts and got a bit of info on what to expect,I've also looked at the candidate guide but just wanted a few experiences if any.Thanks,Darren.

      No chippie mate.
But lead to believe u should brush up on your roof work doing a pitch roof with a ladder.
The rest is stud wall with window etc
From what i have read if you dont do pitch roofs ladders etc everyday brush up on it.
      Good luck

Hey my trade is Carpenter & Joiner, so when it came to the vet assess practical, i just got assessed as a carpenter otherwise it would have meant the 2 exams in the one day and also there was no cnc machine there, from what the examiner said to me that its pretty straight forward get timber to size and planed using the different machines etc then make your window or door can't remember for sure what it was, health and safety is a big thing especially when using the table saw or rip saws, sorry i can't be of any more help and the very best of luck.

My hubby is a chippie. Unfortunately I can't offer you any advice as we haven't got that far yet (still waiting to hear back from our agent before making a start). He'll hopefully be applying for his skills assessment soon though so if you could update this thread with some inside info when you've completed the practical it would be very much appreciated :)

One other thing - I understand that the assessment can be done through Vetassess or Victoria Uni - is there any reason why you decided to use Vetassess over Vic Uni?

      Thanks

Thanks everyone for the replies and best wishes. I heard that i may have to calculate a flight of stairs as well as set out a window or door but i haven't pitched a roof since college!! hopefully that's just the wood butchers section and not mine.
Skelly, i went through vetassess as i'd heard Vic uni was a little slow and to be honest i was pointed in the vetassess direction from the start. I will update and add any info i can for sure, this site has been so helpfull to me so far i'd be more than happy to help others.
      Cheers,
      Darren

Mate any threads i read on chippys they got a bit stuck on roofs just as u say dont do it every day!
I think main part of test is pitched roof only from what i have read it will show skill if you know it.
Better to be pre armed and be confident on it if they ask.
      I would think!
I am sure there is a thread on here on it where one guy took a while doing it but they were happy the fact that he took the time to get it right.

      Hi Lisa,
I'm doing the Joinery practical in June which is a little different to the carpentry one. If your husband has any tips or experience regarding the joinery or in general i would be very glad of any info though.
      thanks and much appreciated,
