Primary Schooling Age - What year would our daughter be in when we move.

      Hello,

We are just trying to finalise our move dates and still confused over schooling and what year our daughter would be in when we move - She was born in Nov 2005 and is in Year 1 (foundation being 1st year) in the UK. If we move in December 2012, would that mean that our daughter would in theory start in January and have another year in infant school?

Would really appreciate some help and also advice on when the best time is for a child to start school - Start of a term/Midway through etc.

      Thanks.

      Hi Richselina,

Friends of ours just moved and have a 6ryr little girl who started in year 1 over there, she was born in December 05. I have also been in touch with the school in the town we are relocating too and our daughter has just turned 6yr also and they have told me she will be in year 1.

      Hope this helps

A child who turned 6 in Nov in any state in Aus will be in year 1 (second year of full time school) in 2012. It really doesnt matter when they enrol in a school - kids come and go all the time. Dont get hung up on the year names or the Infant/Junior thing - it's a foreign country with several totally different state systems of education. Just put her in year 1 if you arrive this year, with her age cohort, and forget anything you ever knew about education in an unrelated foreign country
