You can get help with rent assistance and family assistance which is a bit like child benefit, an amount per child. I think this is only if you are a perminant visa holder! We did get rental assistance in the beginning but that was because I grossly underestimated how much my OH would earn, so we have just had to pay it all back before Christmas so be careful to take into consideration overtime and shift allowance etc. Also everyone went on and on and the education tax rebate and how we could claim back uniforms and computers printers etc, again its all means tested so be careful. We get $53 per fortnight for our 10 year old which I think like family allowance isnt means tested.

Hang on a minute. So instead of starting my new job next week it is better if I:

      1. Head to the King Eddie and spend all my money on booze.

      2. Then don't work and instead let others pay for me.

      3. I won't have to spend a dime on income tax. Let all the other idiots work and pay for my living.

      4. Remember to vote for Labour once I am a citizen since they have us disadvantaged folk at heart.

Awesome, see y'all at the pub... Can't wait for this place to turn into another Blackpool (no offence to any people from Blackpool).

      some people have no shame.

what is wrong with you? did you come here to work, or to drag Australia into the sh*t-hole that England has become because of all the dole bludgers...

ever heard of contributing before you take????

25 grand in the bank and wanting more.... man this is revolting. and rental assisstance? i mean hold on here, if you cant afford to pay your rent here, what would you immigrate here for?

I cant even imagine how you know about sucking from the system of a country you just arrived in, to work in , when you are able bodied!

      Hi all.

Firstly I realise that the OP could have been more specific, BUT.

Please nots let us take the moral high ground too soon, who knows what the OP was asking, was it about child support, disability pensions and the like, and as I said it would have helped if the OP was more specific, but maybe they don't want to say too much about personal issues.

Hopefully they will be back to give their side of the story, in the meantime could we watch what we say 'morally' as it was a valid question in the first instance.

      Cheers Tony.
