      Hi Braveheart

My OH is over 40 and we have managed to secure 70 points (we have managed to evidence maximum work experience and also he got the extra points for IELTS which helps.)

I’m not really sure how the new system works; I’m hoping we will be able to submit our Visa before it comes into effect!

Good luck with your sponsorship / visa application.

I’ve found a link that you may find useful if you are looking for HR sponsorship:

We have been on hols and have just got back so are filling out the state sponsorship application with WA.

We are trying to estimate the cost of living in the three chosen regions. I’ve checked out various websites and managed to get estimates for rent, some food prices etc. I wanted to ask if you don’t mind, how did you estimate your monthly cost of living? Did you take your monthly costs from where you live and then say it’s going to be XX amount more or did you take each monthly out going and then see how much it costs in the regions you have chosen? Might be silly question but some things are easier to find than others!

How are you getting on, when do you move? Are you moving to Perth? Have you managed to find a job out there yet?

Keep me posted with your progress. Any help you can offer for the application would be appreciated!

      Thanks Clare.
      Hi Clare

Happy to help as much as I can ! ask away.

I looked at costs only in Perth. I picked each individual outgoing and looked at the costs. partly on lowest cost and partly on a more conservative basis. My calculation came up to about 3000 AUD per month for a couple on a budget. thats the estimate that we filled up in the State Sponsorship Form

Making last minute preparations to move. Will be flying to Dubai and spending a week there with the in laws before we fly to Perth on 24th June. Havent found a job yet. I reckon its going to be tough what with an emphasis on local experience. But one has to try

I'm a newbie and its great to find a real HR thread, as per previous hints at barking up the wrong thread.

Really encouraging discussion that provides a few pointers for me as I start my journey to secure a future in Australia.

I'm wondering how the new system will affect things - it is good that it opens up the possibilities for those over 40, but it does look like getting enough points might be difficult.

I'm targeting sponsorship as the only real route to securing a visa and the observations around HR Manager/HR Adviser were eye-opening.

Now off to find the relevant role descriptions!
Be advised that the HR Manager Assessment is really tough. Unless you are the CHRO of a fortune 50 company you are not an HR Manager in AIM's eyes. that is going by the observation that they are extremely old school in terms of management hierarchies and teams. They continue to look for large HR and cross functional teams reporting in to you as evidence of seniority and supervisory ability.

If you are going down that route make sure that your role descriptions and org charts show reporting relationships not just in HR but across other functions if you have that.

Else it is advisable to go down much simpler HR Advisor route where the focus is on operational HR activities.

      Hi Pradipin

Thanks for your help. That’s kind of what I’ve been doing. I’ve checked out loads of website’s and used all the info I can find. We have got 2 children and our estimates are just under double of what you have stated so I guess we’re on the right track!

Can I ask what regions you have chosen? We have gone for Perth as 1st choice (which is where we will hopefully live), Kalgoorlie as our 2nd choice as we have a friend there but we weren’t too sure of a 3rd region (we looked at Peel but there wasn’t many HR jobs advertised there so it would be difficult to justify for that reason).

Good luck with all your last minute preparations, I hope they go smoothly! It will be nice to have a hol in Dubai first; at least you can chill for a week before the move.

I’m sure you’ll find a job once you’re there, there are always loads advertised on seek and other websites.

I dont remember the third region to be honest. had discussed it with the agent but I cannot recall it at the moment. I would suggest that you put Bunbury as it is close to Perth. I wouldnt agonize on the choices much because the state sponsorship does not constrain you in terms of employment in regions within the state given it is a 176 that you are applying for.

      Hi Pradiprn

Hope your last minute preparations are going well.

Just thought I’d give you an update, we applied for state sponsorship with Western Australia and received a positive outcome 1 day later :)

We have just lodged our 176 visa application today and uploaded most of the documents except for the passport size photo. So the wait begins :)

Hi that is great news! I also suggest that you book your medicals and get your PCCs done as well and load them.Case officers are being allocated within four weeks on state sponsored apllications and this will allow for a quick decision on your application.

I have started my journey to Perth and am currently in Dubai on a stopover to meet friends and family. Will reach Perth on Sunday!

      Hi Pradiprn

Well I guess you’ve been in Perth nearly two months now, how’s it going? Are you liking it as much as you’d hoped? Have you managed to get settled and find a job yet? Where about are you living?

We’re still waiting for our visa grant, I’ve just had my medicals referred about two weeks ago, so we’re just waiting to get finalised, and then hopefully we’ll have a grant too soon!
