Question Police Checks, UK passports & Medicals.

I did a search and it didn't really help me so apologies for probably asking the same thing everyone else does!

      1. Can I get my police check done before I apply for my visa? I am going to get one done as I am going to be working with children on a self employed basis so I was wondering if I can kill two birds with one stone so to speak.

1a. How do I go about getting a police check done? b. Average cost? c. Time it takes?

      2. When we apply do we send our passports in or just colour copies? Do these have to be 'official' seen by a solicitor copies? We are supposed to travel to Europe during the time our application will be processed in.

      3. Am I right in thinking that now I CAN'T get the medicals done before we apply?

I am married to an Australian (been together 2yrs) who will be out there when I apply. I have a son from a previous relationship who we will also be applying for a visa for. Do I apply for 476 & hope that we get PR straight away as we meet criteria?

Our 15month old daughter is in the process of getting her own Australian passport. Does that mean she gets PR/citizenship automatically?

      Thanks in advance!

As you are married to an Australian you apply for a spouse visa,
police checks are through ACPO http://www.acpo.police.uk/NationalPo...tificates.aspx.

look at the site for costs and details.

Your daughter will be a citizen with her own passport

You will need permission from your sons mother to remove him from the country.

I would wait until asked for medicals and police checks before getting them as they are only valid for 12 months.

Not sure why you would apply for a 476 visa. Surely you would apply for a partner visa 820/801

      http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/fami...as-partner.htm

you would go straight to PR if you meetl the requirements.

The ACPO police check is not the same as the one you do for work in UK. They cost £35.

I wrote the wrong one down - It's 309/100 we are going for as applying in Uk. Thanks again.

That's great Colin, thanks. I meant a spouse visa!

Was told today that may not need permission from Sons father as I am the only one with parental responsibility and he has no contact. Won't know for sure until we have a CO though.

My hubby got his ACPO before we applied, but waited for the medical until told to (within a week of them taking the money he got asked to do the medical).

When he applied for the ACPO he paid for an extra copy so we didn't have to get a certified copy = time saver! It came back within 2 weeks.

They want certified copies of all your passports, but you can keep the originals and travel (we have travelled while waiting without a problem)

You might squeeze into a PR straight away (we're hoping OH gets his straight off as we've lived together for >3 years & no kids, but will have to wait and see!)

      Good luck :)

Ta for the replys. It's all sounding pretty straight forward aside from possibly having to get permission/court order from the sperm donor.
