175 Visa Advice Please!

Hi,
I am currently in Australia as a dependent on my husband's 457 visa. I am a nurse and would like to apply for permanent residency (independant). The visa wizard suggests the 175 visa for me but it says that I can apply for it in or out of Australia, but must be outside Australia when the visa is granted.

Does this mean that I simply have to fly out of Australia so that it is validated on my return? and if so, does DIAC contact you before it is granted so that you know to fly out of the country?

Or should I be applying for a different visa?

You keep your Case Officer informed so they know you're onshore and know how to reliably contact you. When the 175 is approved but before it is granted, they send you a pre-grant letter (or email) so that you have time to leave Australia for 5 or so days so the visa can be granted offshore. It doesn't matter where you go - most people nip across to NZ.

Hi there,

This is Nishi here. My husband is on student visa and I'm on dependant. I'm about to apply for Visa 175 as an accountant. I have IELTS score of 8 and positive skill assessment for three degrees. However I'm bit confused if I should apply for state sponsorship to QLD govt to get the priority processing benefit or should I go ahead with 175. I have already unsuccessfully tried WA govt. for sponsorship as they required resident of other states to have worked in WA for an year or more.

Now I'm in dilemma if I should waste any more time trying for state sponsorship. Our current visa expires in August this year.

Plz advice.

Hi Deepak,

Migration rules are changing from 1st of July, 2012 and visa 175 would be replaced by subclass 189. We applied for visa 176 and didn't use any consultant or agent. All the information regarding visa subclass 189 can be found on link below:
