      Gasfitter or Plumber?

I have seen a few threads on this but nothing conclusive and I am now sending emails here there and everywhere to try and get a definite.

Basically we sent off for our skills assessment for Plumbing a few weeks ago but the money hasn't been taken from our card yet.

We have since been looking at whether he can apply as a Gasfitter instead as there is no practical skills test and the costs are so much less!

Some are saying you need to have 4 years training - my OH did a 4 year apprenticeship in Plumbing which has gas components within it and therefore he received a separate gas fitter cert from BTEC when he qualified enabling him to do gas work. He then did a refresher course when this expired to enable him to continue to do gas work and sign it off.

Does anyone know for sure whether he would be able to apply? We really need to find out before the cost of the other skills assessment is taken :)

      Any help much appreciated xx

This occupation has a level of skill commensurate with the qualifications and experience in Australia of AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3).
At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.

That's what the DIAC website says - so if he has carried out gas work for three years anyway it may be a substitute for formal qualifications?
