Finding an employer to sponser us

      Hi,
My name is Donna, I am 30 years old my husband is 37, we have 3 children. I moved to Australia with my parents when i was a child and after 3 years they seperated and mum brought us back here, my dad is still their after 20 years and loves it, I have no family left in the UK and want to move to be near my dad.

We are currently Hotel Owners/Managers which is on these lists. (1413-11)
We have no degree or formal qualifications but we have ran a very successful business for 3 years.

Before that my husband was a vehicle paint sprayer / panel beater / body repair worker for 17 years, some employed and some self employed. He again has no formal qualifications but is ectremely good at what he does and with 17 uears experence behind him.

What he does is listed as 2 different occupations on the SOL list
      4213-11 Panel Beater
      4214-11 Paint Sprayer

An independant Visa takes around 3 years and when we called Australia House we were advised that the best way forward would be to find an employer to sponser either my husband as a paint sprayer/panel beater or the both of us as Hotel/Motel mangers. Where do we begin to find a sponser?

      Many Thanks
      Donna & Matthew

      Hi Donna

I am no expert but, is your father now a citizen of Australia? Even Perm Residents can sponsor dependents but if your father is a citizen maybe there is a loop hole that you can apply based on that that might speed things up a bit.

Hopefully by bumping this thread up someone can you give you some good advice.

      Good luck

There is no loop hole. Citizens can sponser in exactly the same way as PR.

Though there is a visa for former residents and the last remaining relative visa that you might want to check out.

      Hi Donna
The quickest route like you said may be finding a company to sponsor you. Yes there are other options i.e possibility of father sponsoring you etc

Id just like to put my view on sponsorship and also give you a little bit of our journey. My other half's occupation is on the current SOL 4. None of the states have his work listed on their sponsorship lists so that was ruled out (although in fairness the only places with companies in his industry are Sydney and 1-2 in Melbourne). We do have family who could sponsor us but with role only being on SOL 4 it would be almost Mission Impossible.
Almost a year ago my partner sent out loads of CV's and his showreel to pretty much every company in his industry in Oz - he got lot of interest but so many companies just didnt have resources or experience in sponsorship so basically said if you can get a visa we can give you a job! (Great but not helpful lol) He was approached by a large company in Sydney who met him when they were in London last March - unfortunately at that time an appropriate role with what we deemed to be a workable salary was not available.
We spent all of last year religiously checking all the various company websites, industry recruitment pages, speaking with contacts and contacts of contacts etc watching for vacancies that he could apply for. NOTHING!! In January the company he met with last year advertised a suitable role and he got back in touch - again however the money wasnt right as it is only a 5 month contract (although hopefully more will come of it in the future) but we have decided to take the opportunity and he is going over there in 4/5 weeks for 5 months while me and the kids stay at home. While he is there he can show what he can do, meet other companies etc!

With all the changes in immigration and visas since we first started looking it definitely feels to me that Oz Govt are pushing towards employer sponsored visas as being the way to go. I think it is probably a good thing but maybe companies need to be helped out a bit by being educated in the process and having it explained to "newbies" to show its not as horrific as they imagine.

Sorry Ive waffled a bit but I guess im trying to say that where there is a will there is a way!
In terms of finding a company id get good CVs drawn up and then just put yourself out there - contact all the hotel chains out there, independant hotels , Breweries etc and see what feedback you get. Likewise for your husbands other occupation option.

Anyway all the best of luck to you and good luck for the future

      xxx

Thanks for your replies, unfortunately we do not qualify for a family visa i do have living relatives i'm just not in contact with them and my husband/children have relatives here.

I have spoken to me and my dad said that he can't sponser me due to the fact that I have to meet minimum requirements which means a study visa and the college would be brisbane which is 200 miles away from where they live!

And now i have been informed that if we get an employer to sponser us we will still not qualify as we do not have formal qualifications! Is this correct? I find it hard to believe that a country which is so under populated they currently have a sceme where they pay every expectant mother £2000 dollars!! EVERY MOTHER!! they want to encourage people to have children, yet someone who has a family their, has lived their before, has enough money to support ourselves and enough experience to get a job just can't get in!! Almost all who lives their came from Brittain at some point or another so it should be easier for brittish people!

Yes it's correct. Australia wants immigrants that can fulfil jobs that Australia cant. They dont need sany more people able to do min wage jobs, they have enough of them already. There is a strict criteria and skills assessment in your occupation. If you dont have one study for one.

And I think you'll find there is a lot more to the history and growing population of Australia than British influence.
If you think you'll be moving to a model of the UK only bigger and warmer you wont. There are far more immigrants from every corner of the globe than the UK.

Oh and they pay every mother $7000 ;o)

$7000! My step brother and his wife only got 2000 a year ago! Yes I know what you mean their are a lot of Japanese in the cities as I recall from when I lived their but british were 1st to take over that's why their is a union jack on the flag!
But my point is that someone with 17 years experience who is very very talented at their job but who gained no formal qualifications just learnt on the job is surely more skilled than a 25 year old who learnt in a college and only has 2 years experience? If moving to Canada they care more about experience than quals as it should be!

Having some formal education shows the DIAC and Australian employer you have been trainined to certain standard, and you have the ability to retrained. Education / training is used as badget.

There is no bench mark that you can test against to prove you at the same standard as Australian there.

I would explore your husbands trade, and see if he could get a sponsor
