  1. hey, with the documents we brought the originals with us and also scanned copies of birth cert/passport etc and sent them to our own email address and also someone back at home that you trust for example I sent them to my dad and my partners dad so we can always get copies of them if needed. When we arrived we both got locked out of our email accounts for some time for 'security' from logging on over here and it took my boyfriend weeks to get his unlocked so luckily our parents had the copies of documents if we needed them. Clothes wise.. depends where your going and when. We got here Sep and have been in Melbourne which is known for 4 seasons in 1 day (and it has not disappointed) so abit of everything we have had to buy a few things here, im a hairdresser and have to wear black everyday which I didn't pack a lot of for travelling but you can actually get some pretty good bargains on clothes. I agree though my light waterproof jacket has been my saving grace on more than one occasion!
  2. Hey, Have either of you got trades? Me and my partner arrived in Melbourne from the uk end of Sep and we knew we needed work asap... Im a hairdresser so I just walked around the city handing my cv's into any salon I walked past, I got a phone call the same day and a trial and job offer the next day. My partner got on with getting his white card and put an add on gumtree as soon as he had his white card and his phone was ringing off the hook for a couple of weeks with job offers, some only temporary or a few days work but he managed to find a full time permanent job labouring within a couple of weeks. I think as long as your not too picky in the work you want and look into getting things like your white card (construction) or rsa (bar work or some waitressing) to give more options you'll be fine. We've only done Melbourne so far though so don't know what its like in other areas! Good luck!
  3. Thanks for the feedback. We want to do farm work to qualify for the 2nd year whv does anyone know if being a couple makes finding this type of work more difficult? From what I can gather this can be in remote locations so we'd need to get work in the same place.
  4. Most is farm work the fee's usually involve induction course and assistance completing applications for things like bank accounts, tax file numbers, medical cards etc also airport pick up with first few days hostel included and then the guaranteed jobs at the end.. some of them are quite pricey though which I wouldn't mind as long as they do what they say but that's why I def want to look into more before handing any money over.
  5. Hi guys, Me and my partner are to go travelling next year.. First stop oz. We will need to work and have been looking at the companies that offer guaranteed jobs are these recommended? If so which ones have people used? We are thinking we would rather pay extra for the assurance of getting a job than having to cut our trip short because we can't find work. Any feedback would be great! thanks
