  1. Suffering those ping pong blues. I'd like to think I'm a bit wiser the second time. Summer in Bury lasted about three weeks so I agree, better than usual.
  2. We moved back to the UK in 2010 after living in Adelaide for 3 years. Returned due to me being homesick missing family and friends. Been in UK 4 years and spent the last 3 wanting to return to Oz but couldn't due to rubbish exchange rate etc...I never thought I would miss Oz so much and the fantastic weather. I like UK and Oz but I believe my children will have a better future in Oz. Reasons are different for everyone. Got a RR Visa and would like to ping pong back to Oz next year. Fingers crossed.
  3. Probably both are the same. It was in the UK news recently that asylum seekers received more in benefits than OAPs. If that's food for thought.
  4. I will soon have the same problem with my 11-year-old son. He doesn't know yet and I am dreading telling him. He's got some good mates that mean the world to him. He will definitely not want to go to Oz and have major tantrums. A kid's whole life is their mates at that age. Got to make the move soon as when kids get into their teens would be a nightmare to drag them away from boyfriends/girlfriends etc...
  5. I'm doing exactly the same at the moment. Just had three rooms plastered so plenty of painting for the next few weeks.
  6. Sound's like just what my wife needs to read to give her a bit more enthusiasm about a move down under. Do you have a link for the survey?
  7. Got my 155 Resident Return Visa in Feb this year after returning to the UK in Mar 2010 after 3 years in Adelaide due to missing family and friends  I believe it's time to ping-pom back to Oz. With hindsight we shouldn't have bought and extended a run-down house and to spend a year doing it up, and for the last few months it's been none-stop decorating in between going to work. Had the plasterers in this week now I've got three rooms to paint before carpets can go down. Now the house is nearly complete it is looking great, and it seems crazy to leave it after all the hard work and disruption. Just miss Oz too much and want my kids to a better future, enough said. At least another months work before I can get the estate agents round. Will get there in the end, day by day, if I keep plugging away. Might just tune the computer into some internet Aussie radio station to keep my spirits up. Should it be Mix 102.3 or Cruise 1323 for some easy listening? Regards Warren
  8. Same, North West of England has had its fair share of rain, as usual.
  9. Great post, I am going through the same right now. Emigrated to Adelaide in Sep 07, mega homesickness returned to UK in Feb 2010, now in Mar 2012, miss Australia a lot and had enough of UK. Just had our visas extended and planning to return down under some time in the next year. Hope it works for my family second time too. Guess homesickness clouds your judgement. Having ping ponged once, I now realise that Australia is a much better place to raise a family. I am sure it will be worth all the upheaval of relocating for a third time! Warren
  10. Thanks for the welcome Cerberus1, We haven't decided where yet, still early stages. Have got family and friends in SA so Adelaide is favourite. However, we also have friends on the Gold Coast which we liked very much. Lots of talking to do this the other half over a bottle of red this weekend.
  11. Hi All, Ouch, the headache of being a Ping Pong Pom, or maybe soon to be. I am in a similar situation. Myself, wife and three kids emigrated to Adelaide, Oz in Sep 07 and for various reasons which included homesickness we returned to UK in Feb 10. Been back two years and am ready to give Oz anther try. I have enjoyed being back seeing family and friends and the few occasions that we could arrange to meet, everyone is just so busy these days. Both my wife and I are public sector workers and the future is grim and uncertain. Despite enjoyed a nice snowy winter and Christmas Day in 2010, I'm now ready for regular sunshine again. There's obviously a lot more in the decision process. Our visa expires next month so for the last 6 months we were resigned to staying in UK for rest of our lives despite often talking about giving Oz another try. Then I discovered about the Resident Return Visa (RRV) that lasts for five years, gives permanent residency and that brought a big smile to my face. Applied for the visa last week and just received all five passports for our family with those lovely visa labels. Now we have some more life-changing decisions to make. For me it's a no-brainer but my 10-year boy won't see it that way as his school friends and football team mates are his life at the minute. My wife does not want to have to tell her mother, for the second time, that we are emigrating - which I can understand. What this space! Warren
