  1. A tip for dealing with agencies - make sure you call them. I often call before submitting my resume and try to speak to the person responsible for filling the role, ask for more info etc.
  2. Would you consider a shared apartment? You should be able to get something decent for around $370 a week....
  3. @Ozmaniac one more question, do i still need to wait for the two year period before applying or is it not necessary under DE 186? Thanks
  4. NSW mate, thanks for your help, always nice to have options!
  5. Good stuff bobj! Nice barra! Yeah always careful on the rocks mate, checking tides and swell, good thing is there a multiple levels to fish off at this spot so you can keep dry.
  6. Thank you for your contributions guys.... @Ozmaniac my occupation is conference and event organiser (as listed on CSOL list), I have over 3 years experience in this role. My partner is a recruitment consultant and primary holder of the 457. Your point about employers reneging on promises is also why we want to explore other avenues.... Any drawbacks in terms of applying via DE or TRT? Subject to passing skills assessment DE seems like the best option.
  7. Traditional Chip Shop in Bondi Junction is closest to UK Fish n Chips I have had here. Proper hand cut chips, fried cod, wrapped in paper. They do all the usual sides if that's your type of thing. Downsides, mega busy, have to wait whilst it's cooked and a bit dear at $20 a pop....
  8. I found the smaller hostels are often better for meeting people... Probably better to go by location first and take it from there.
  9. Land based, been having good success off south Maroubra beach on the rocks. Lots of nice bream, blackfish among others.
  10. Hi pomsinoz Wanted to check the forums' knowledge on this topic.... Background, I am on my partners' 457 visa and we would both like to get PR, however, her employer has a policy that they will only nominate for PR after 3 years. Ideally she would like to be independent from her employer as quickly as possible... What are our options for applying for PR after 2 years? My occupation is listed on the CSOL list, could I apply for PR based on this and be nominated by my employer after 2 years on 457? Thanks for your help
  11. @PinkGorilla If you are under 30 a good option would be to apply for WHV and come over to Oz to look for jobs that will offer you a 457, that's what I have done.... It's not easy to find employers who offer 457s but it is possible....
  12. What stream would I have to apply via? Basically my partner's employer will only nominate for (and pay) PR after 3 years but if there is a way we can apply after 2 years, even if independently, it's something we would like to do. E.g. I work in my current occupation listed on CSOL list, after two years I could ask my employer to nominate me for my PR therefore negating my partner being tied to her employer for another year? @ciaranmacgiolla I could only apply for PR after 2 years on my 457 but it's just when my partner or I apply, based on whoever can get it the quickest....
  13. Without hijacking the thread, I'm on my partners' 457, my occupation is on the CSOL list, would I be able to apply for PR without being "nominated" or would we have to go down the route of being "nominated" by my partners employer?
  14. @Ozmaniac - what do you mean by "marriage-like de facto"? We have not had any temporary separation, we have been together the entire time albeit in several different countries... @raul specifics such as? We are both in a committed, exclusive relationship for over two years, however, we do not have any joint bank accounts and/or joint bills. We do have letters addressed to the same address since we moved to Australia. Is there any other evidence that would be considered in this situation? For example we have worked at the same workplace together for several years. Professional advice will be sought upon application with the company (they sponsor fairly often), I just wanted to get an idea of any evidence I could begin to gather beforehand. Thanks all
  15. Hi Pumkin, the company have agreed to to include me on the application, they know we are not married and are "dating". I was under the impression that if you could provide evidence of a relationship over one year in length then I'm eligible to be included on the visa? I obviously have the wrong end of the stick regarding the de facto situation...
